I have cracking knees when I just woke up and wanna stretch and twist.
Sometimes when I do inclined push ups, my elbows have cracking sounds.
That's different
What makes the sound when we crack our knuckles?
The cracking or popping sound is thought to be caused by the gases rapidly coming out of solution, allowing the capsule to stretch a little further. The stretching of the joint is soon thereafter limited by the length of the capsule. If you take an x-ray of the joint after cracking, you can see a gas bubble inside the joint. This gas increases the joint volume by 15 to 20 percent; it consists mostly (about 80 percent) of carbon dioxide. The joint cannot be cracked again until the gases have dissolved back into the synovial fluid, which explains why you cannot crack the same knuckle repeatedly.

Me cannot leh. When FFI last yr and MO said it is normal wear and tear. :thumbsd:

wah sianz!

liddat lost form liao

so wear and tear expect us to run more so that can tear even further?

i should tell the MO, maybe i should wear and tear his....

sometimes should really get the MO's to dig their own brains abit...

and i can safely say, even with glucosamine, u won't get "regeneration" of cartilage cells...unless u go for stemcell treatment, WHICH isn't safe enuf yet as most still gives rise to teratomas.

bo bian leh.

If you have a specialist recommendation letter, maybe chances of downgrade higher.

same as another bro...torn meniscus (sp)
had to get surgery, company paid for it. after surgery a blood clot developed and went from my leg area into and out of my heart and lodged in my lung...turned into life threatening pulmonary embolism (sp)...no prob, still company and state insurance paid for.

just curious, insurance tried to say mine was normal wear n tear but when compared to my other knee, big big difference so insurance and state ended up covering the bills and even lost wages...anything like that here?

anyways, take care of your knees...and of course take each of each other.
peace

You will probably need to take xrays for both the knees and that will show whether it is really the cartilage wearing off. You can usually see that the knee caps will be rubbing or very close to your bones, and that causes the pain and sound. Actually the best way to confirm the diagnosis is via doing a scope, but I don't think you would really want to go thru the pain and also the costs of doing that.

The problem is usually caused by overweight (if you are), ie the pressure of the upper body compresses and also adds impact to the knee areas and causing it to be worn out faster, or, doing too much high impact sports when you are young.

And if you, ahem, looking for a downgrade, while serving our great nation, this may be something that you would want to pursue. It's not easy, especially if the extent of your wear and tear is not significant, but of course powerful letters will bring you to places :) ... of course if that's what you want

I think should take an X-ray for detail checkup...i mean...i have this problem for the past 10yrs...and only recently getting worse...prefer to bet on the safe side..spend more money...at least i know what happen to my knees.

I'm not overweight wor..In fact, i'm underweight...coz i jog alot.
I suspect maybe i jog on roads...uneven grounds, which gives impact to my kneecaps.
Should jog in the stadiums on the rubberised track....absorb the impact.

Downgrade?
Aiyah...now oledi ICT phase liao...not active NSF....even downgrade..must go through alot
of medical checkups....not so easy one.

Most imptly.....must able to bend, walk, run without feeling pain.
Don't wish so young carry a walking stick around.....

Like that how to walk up the stairs of Great Wall of China???

:embrass:  :embrass:

Company paid for the surgery???
What field you working?? how come so good?

I doubt my company would pay for such thing.
Fever, flu, dental can lah...but surgery on knee caps???

Insurance??? ahhhhhh.....time to relook at my insurance policies!!!
Good reminder.

Btw, i really dislike the idea of "surgery".
If surgery gone haywire....wau piang eh.....wheelchair whole life leh...

Just like some frds of mine avoid spine surgery...despite having spine problem.

yeah all paid for, including almost 4 months lost wages, but this was back in hawaii when i was doing electrical work for a private contractor

it fell under a worker's compensation law. when people use the system correctly it is a beautiful thing for all and it works, but unfortunately there are people that do abuse it.

Yes it IS normal wear and tear.

Everybody's cartilage will wear off. The difference is the speed.

Maybe kneecap misalignment by injury/birth, maybe already damaged kneecap, maybe muscle problems. All these WILL have an effect on the wearing off.

My GP said it was normal wear & tear and so did my specialist. Physio and medication are usually what the specialist will recommend first. Surgery & Physio as a last option. In my case, the latter worked wonders.

Squat, Walk up stairs, Run, got cracking sounds.
Only recently after completed my IPPT last 2-3 weeks, i realised is getting painful and thatz when i start to get worry.

Normally, just cracking sounds without any pain.
but this time round abit different.

Sometime pain so bad...had to walk in limp, rest awhile...and walk bit by bit.

Nowadays, buses or trains come earlier...oso won't run after it.
Late so be it.

 :p

Me too... running and IPPTs had really taken a toll on my knees these recent years... juz had a MRI scan done at SGH this week... review in 2 weeks... all my finger crossed...

I am called the cric crack girl!

Both knees crack and can never walk quietly if am trying to tip toe in; ankles tend to go "crik crack crik crack" But no real pain....

I don't know if it helps but after more than two years of weight training, the pain has subside quite a fair bit. The cracking sound is still there but much lesser pain now. Don't know whether it is the weight lose or the muscle gain that one way or another help lessen the impact on the kneee or have strengthen the knee. The only excerise I cut down is running long distance.

Any theory?

i hv such a problem too..when i put my palm on my knees and i move them, i can feel them "creaking" against one another...as though some "lubricant" is missing between the bones...

I hv the problem and thanks to some friends.
Here is a simple solution which is cheap and good.

Go NTUC or ColdStorage, get Wheat-Germ, packaging like N'cafe 200gm, price around $10.
Is food, just spread onto your rice, drink, fruit, ice-cream etc....

Is in Cereal section.

Try it/Cheers

CMP cannot downgrade one...

but if someone... doc dignose as artheritis (dunnoe how to spell) then can downgrade at least C9L2 liao.. got pple get pes E

Happen to me before and took me 2 mths to return to my jogging routine.
Even since, I took some measure to avoid worn-out knee cartilage again,

- Invest in shoes
- Strenghten my legs more during gym
- Try to run more on soft ground like stadium track
- Take glucosamine......but stop liao
- Rest once pain is there, it's your body's warning :nono:
