Anyone keep on Researching Wet Plate Photography?

Found a local source for silver nitrate, but its only in 1kg package. S$1170.......

Did you try sigma aldrich? They sell in smaller quantity, but per gram is more ex compared to 1kg quote u got.

they sell the whole kit... 275USD for a whole kit, plus shipping (which im not sure yet, and if it requires some permit from SG)

We also need to get a necessary holder for the plate, which they sell too. For 199usd (4x5 size), anyone has any alternative ideas to that? seems abit pricey i think.


I have a friend who went HK to learn from a Wet-plate specialist and is keen in starting something here in SG as well..

Chamonix has the 4x5 plate holder for 110 usd and the 8x10 plate holder at 240 usd, thoughI was planning to convert one of my leaking 8x10 holders into a plate holder too.

Checked with Chamonix, the shipping for the 4x5 plate holder with be 15usd to Singapore and 5usd Paypal fees if you use Paypal

Used Bostick checkout to estimate the shipping cost: One 4x5 set - FedEx International Priority, 2-3 Business days (331.25 usd)

I followed up with an email with them and they confirmed FedEX is required and suggested ordering 8x10 kit set. Shipping cost is also really high at 350usd for the 8x10kit!!!

"Wet Plate chemistry (including the kits) is hazardous and we are required to ship via FedEx. If you would like a quote, I can use the address below. Due to the high cost of shipping, I would suggest getting the kit for 8x10. The only difference is the amount of silver nitrate but it will help to offset the cost of shipping a bit.

It looks like both ordering from Bostick and ordering raw chemicals from sigma aldrich are quite expensive! Unless can find local cheap chemical suppliers.

I'm asking them to give me an estimated course fee, but I don't think will be very ex. Will be conducted in the mobile container darkroom they have now
