I think Jed meant to say that a tripod is more suitable. With a pre-arranged setting like this, I would expect most people to use a tripod instead of handheld or monopod.

Also, weak light is not limiting. There are many other ways to take a photo in weak light, not just getting bigger apertures.

Also, I think learning portraiture shots shouldn't start off with pretty models. Most guys tend to lose their focus. Good portraiture ain't usually pretty models. I strongly suggest starting off with each other first.

Remember, its portraiture, not glamour shots or model shoots.

HJahhaha.... that why I have you in mind.....

So when you free we go shoot each other?
This coming Sat ?

Actually, I meant that hand holding will be of little restriction as the model will also be moving. So IS or a monopod will be of little use.

ok maybe some of you can give a recommandations on the type and brand etc.. of film to be used for portraits.

for both colour and black and white.

Tripods and hand holding, the debate over portraiture has been raging for ages. Generally, the reason is to slow the photographer down to concentrate on expression and details rather than just machine gunning the scene and hoping one turns out. I've not heard of many people using a monopod for portrait work. In a group situation, adopting the tripod style is inappropriate, for obvious reasons.

Personally I am a hand hold person, and the only time I use a tripod is when I'm shooting with long lenses (think wide apertured superteles) with the goal being to take the weight of the rig more than anything else.

Currently have two MODEL available. I asked them(my classmate) and they happily agree with it. =p

They are pretty ok looking.. actually above average. Not those ah-lian but just simple decent girl(above average looking).

Their rates are from 6-8dollars/hr!!!! That's SUPER CHEAP. And they will be happy if you guys print a few of the best pictures for them. They got no modelling experience so maybe we will have to guide them to pose.

Anyone interested to get their service?

:bsmilie: Btw.. now i sound like a pimp man... haha... :bsmilie:
:bsmilie: Since you are pimp man, you wanna organise it???:bsmilie:
I don't understand half of Zhoufang's rules, if I sign up with him shall kena scolded wan!!! I am newbie in Photography whereas they are pro in photography but new in protraiture!

So I sign up with you lah!;p

Film depends completely on the kind of effect you're trying to achieve. Be prepared to experiment as you go on, but to start with, films such as NPS, Astia and FP4+ are good safe starters. My own personal preference is NPH, Astia and HP5+, but that is not all for the same purposes (for example I wouldn't use HP5+ for beauty shots, and I'm not a fan of FP4 but that's just me, and would use APX100 instead).

Can. Most of the photo shops around the Penisula/Funan/Adelphi area have them. I regularly use NPH400 for weddings.

I afraid next two weekends are bad for me. I only free from 9 March onward. Prefer Sunday afternoon. OK for the rest! Where is the venue going to be Klause? Hopefully there is a PC so can examine the shots on the spot. I meant examined by Fundee. Then can retake with the pointers given by Fundee. Wow! Perfect!!!:D
