I tried going to the indonesia version of clubsnap forum... but cannot understand the site as it is mostly in their language... just want to do some price comparison. :)

People from Indonesia are getting lenses from us, hence i don think is Cheaper there. Go malaysia to get a better deal.

i thought is the other way round? sg go jakarta to buy lens and come to sg to sell?

anyway from google i only found one shop in jakarta selling Carl Zeiss lens.

http://jpckemang.com/items.php?cid=...256403ee69a02c28f6&mid=43415112548ec63989ec53

Its so much cheaper to get the 21mm f2.8 ZE mount from there, cost only $2100+ as compared to Cathay Photo selling at $2700+.

Factor in time and cost to travel, the difference may be negligible. Even then, travelling to those shops in Jakarta would probably take you a long while if you're not familiar with the place. ;)

Didn't know it's that cheap after factoring all those in.

Usually if you're lucky enough, you could squeeze at most $200 or thereabout for saving.

I was there last month 19 - 21.. walked around mangga dua area, there are a few malls with that name, look like sim lim..

prices for lens more than sg, quite ex. Didn't get anything..

like what someone mentioned above, my friends in indo asking me help them get lens here. lol so i don't think it's cheaper there

looking at their pricing on their website, if that is how much they are selling as stated on their website, then its significantly cheaper then i get in SG. I dunno about the canon lens pricing though (not intending to buy any).

anyway i found this online JB store selling the same lens ard the same price, they allow me to self pick up the lens in JB... so i might consider going there to get instead.

Hello,

Some friends recommended to go to Aneka Photo at .. Pasar Baru if I'm not wrong. They said it's cheaper than SG.

Also, one reputable shop you can check is JPC Kemang (http://jpckemang.com)

For example, I just did a quick comparison for the Sigma 30 mm f1.4 (I dunno which version tho) - in the website the price is about 4.5 million IDR, which is about.. 630 SGD? They also comes with 2 years of original Sigma warranty (local from Jakarta, of course)

Hope this helps

Hi...I'm from Jakarta...

There are three shops in Jakarta, that are in most cases cheaper then others... but most of them are too crowded since they are
the cheapest AFAIK.

1. you mentioned already above... JPC Kemang...most of the pro non pro casuals etc are going there.....
so imagine the crowd. Unless you speak malay very well than its ok to go there
2. Toko camzone ...( most of the time the cheapest) but call before you come....ask for the stock first
www.tokocamzone.com ( or google) located in southern of jakarta
3. Focus Nusantara....www.Focusnusantara.com located in center of Jakarta

My opinion about your search in Indonesia
We Indonesian go to SG to buy "all things" its sounds a bit funny that you are looking for something in Indonesia (sorry no offense)

It is sometimes true that things are a bit cheaper in jakarta....
Why don't you do like this....
The are a lot of Indonesian living in SG....if you know someone...
ask him or her to contact their family member in Jakarta to buy for you....an send it by int'l courier service...
it is a lot cheaper than if you go by yourself... (traffic jam, polluted air ha ha ha......:) )

This is what I did.... I have a niece living in SG....she helped me buying from clubsnap SG...and all was happy ending...

I hope this help...
Jimmy

thanks, i have checked the other 2 stores you mention (2 and 3) before but they dun carry Zeiss lens. So far only jpc kemang carries it.

the purpose of me to go over there personally is to avoid incurring GST at the SG custom ... else i will choose courier service to save the hassle.

Since you're already very specific about what you want (that Zeiss lens), then if JPC Kemang has it and the price is reasonably lower, I guess you can try it.

Try to email & book appointment with JPC Kemang first - ask whether they really have the stock.

yeah already contacted them but currently no stock. So most probably i will be getting from JB instead.

I believe the Indonesian price is cheaper that SG or MY.

Why? the indonesian lens/camera warranty only valid in Indonesia, whereas if you buy lens/cam in SG or MY, the warranty valid for worldwide.

my experience tells that if you service non local warranty's stuff, you will be charged double for the service cost only.
therefore to protect the domestic product from local distributor, they use that strategy/policy (local warranty only valid in Indonesia)

CMIIW.

hope it explains.

Thanks,
Andree

PS: my favorite store is www.focusnusantara.com or www.oktagon.co.id or http://www.bhinneka.com/category/camera_and_video.aspx

i'm not sure about other brand

but for canon , Singapore is using local warranty now (red card), last year still using worldwide warranty (green card)
so your warranty cannot be used elsewhere (except China, looks like special country for canon :( )

You probably need to check out some facts about the warranty provided by Canon Singapore and Malaysia.

Most, if not all of the equipments from Canon, unless otherwise bundled with Canon international warranty card, are all deemed to have local warranty only.

And no, it is absolutely incorrect that the cost of servicing will be twice. The amount Canon charges for repairs are irrelevant of whether the equipment is locally (out of warranty) purchased or otherwise from elsewhere.

thanks guys!

anyway me not getting canon lens, getting a Carl Zeiss 21mm ZE mount.
