Hi

just wanna know if anyone has any unpleasant experience with this retailer.

I called them at 11+ am intending to obtain a quote on Fuji F30. After a long wait, someone picked up my call but I was unprepared for some extremely poor customer service.

Someone had evidently picked up my call but place the handset on the table w/o even answering! I could hear someone explaining a digicam function (presumably to a customer).

I will understand if they are busy and shorthanded. Walk in customers deserve priority but at least have the courtesy to let me know. If they are not going to take calls, they shd hang the phone up.

I have no problem with John 3:16 . So far, though their price is slightly more expensive, but i find their services good. Maybe a face to face may help.

dealt with them before ... super nice , professional and downright honest. only have good things to say about them

For the 2 times i been there, their face-to-face service is excellent. Yes i had to wait for my turn, but I still consider the service excellent becoz of the way they provide recommendations for other customers.

And as a bonus, they speak proper english too.

Just my experience...

John 3:16 is generally friendly and helpful with face to face transactions. I recommend looking for Leslie. He would give helpful answers and give good recommendations even when I am dressed in t-shirt and shorts and don't look like I can afford the bubble wraps that their nice tripods are cocooned in. Samuel tends to favour the people who wears their wallet on their sleeves but still remains nice and polite.

Hee..hee...their customers don't only come during the regular peak hours. At times they can be overflowing with customers at 8:30pm on Monday night, there may be 1 guy behind the counter serving 4 customers 1/2 hour after opening and sometimes they don't eat dinner until closing hours at around 9pm. I know cause I've been there at odd hours, sometimes chatting with them for hours while my wife shops.

Phone calls? They only get answered if the guys can breath. :bsmilie:

Over-the-counter and follow-up service? Excellent! Recommended many of my customers to them and they in turn have recommended their friends. :)

Busy or not, its just not good manners and bad costumer service not to answer a phone or to leave the receiver on the desk. It does not matter if they are nice and good when you are there, you might just be that costumer calling to see if you want to spend $2000 with them or not.
I have no pity with such people, either you are working in a service industry and you give service or you better stay out. But then it does not seem to bother a lot of people, hence it will never change.

Their price is not the best around also.

Usually, it is hard get good services along with good prices here ... sign ... but i guess it is pretty much the same elsewhere. Singaporean always want cheap and good + good service some more ... not easy to find ...

Go there in person, I love John 3:16, one of my favourite camera stores, they are always so polite and willing to chat and let you try out gear. Ive only called them once, and service was indeed very slow on the phone. Just go down there and experience how friendly they are first hand!

Look for Sam, hes one of my favourites, very friendly and a good laugh!

I have bought quite a few lenses and cameras from Samuel. Their service was excellent- including exchanging a faulty Sigma lens for me 3x without a word of complaint. BUT, I have stopped going there as I find they are unable to cope with the number of customers there... and they often don't even answer the phone. I have Samuel's personal HP # and I'll SMS him outside of office hrs if I need his help/ advice. I agree that putting u on hold was bad business service and would not blame you if you brought your business elsewhere... just like I refused to buy a Toyota last time becos their sales staff service just plain sucked.

Hope you wont write them off just yet..
And i agree with the rest of the guys that they do provide one of the best services around.

haha, perhaps that is why they are so busy serving shop customers...because they really do put in effort and explain patiently and with details on products, where other shops are just only keen in selling you the stuffs.

do drop by their shop when you are in singapore, and you will know why are we defending their services. :)

Personnally I do frequent the shop and their face to face service is the best. Unfortunately for that reason the wait for your turn is damn long... You gotta be prepared to stay like 1+ hr before you can get all your answers but I'd say it's worth the wait. Price wise agreed may not be the best around but if you know your stuff you can try telling him This Place sells this thing for $XX. Usually he will match or better the price. I did compare prices with MS and later with John and I find that it's very similar (in fact for the particular item the same) even if a bit more I'd give it to them for the great service. But don't forget to check on the prices of the accessories too cos they are not too good at remembering prices of accessories...:)....but otherwise their service is first class. For that reason I have recommended quite a few of my friends there and most (if not all) have been satisfied with the experience apart from the long wait.

Once my friend wanted to buy a P&S digicam for a trip because his Ixus is spoilt so he went to John to buy one but Samuel just lent him his own digicam and told him to save his money.... How's that for service?
Another time (during the film era) I was asking Sam whether he had any Velvia and to help me save money instead he offered to hand roll the film for me will no charge for manual service!

I did have a not so good experience on the phone but as the previous posts drop in on a sunday and you will understand why....

Anyway John 3:16 has thumbs up from me!

with a name like John 3:16, I think they may be Christians..
anyone know them personally?

Ya... known the family since they started out on the ground floor of Funan. Actually, if you go down there personally, you would be given a full course on how to use whatever you intend to buy. And if you decide against buying it, they will do you no harm. They would even go all out to get you something that is not available if you are willing to wait for it, and no deposits required!
Unless you have one specically employed as a receptionist, I doubt any retailer with that kind of manpower would be able to handle all calls they way we want them to do. I've tried it, seen it and taken it. I've had experiences when I ordered something through the phone from one of the other well-rcommended outlets. Rwo hours later, I got there and was told that the item was sold off to another because there were not sure that I was really buying it. Gave the fellas there my piece and left never to get anything from there again. A few years back, I did order something through John 3:16 and they kept the stuff even 2 months later for me.
I am not defending them! I have not bought stuff from them for quite a while, and they know it. Not even my latest d200. Friendship was never a priviledge... I sometimes had to wait hours before I could be entertained. Yet throughout the wait, I am always well
treated.
TS should go down and visit them and find out for yourself. You won't be surprised to be regarded as a friend after a visit or two...
Just my $0.02!

Ya, and I remembered how my Minolta 800 si exploded on me when I was doing a shoot and Sam lent me his F4, no questions asked.

I too agree that John 3:16 has the best service around which is why I only get my stuffs from there. As for the phone issue, he doesn't even pick up his personal mobile when he's busy lol. If I need anythin', I'll be sure to sms/call him the night before.

As a regular customer/friend of Samuel, I would like to apologise to the threadstarter on his behalf. Sorry to have caused this frustration.

They must be pretty good with some many positive appraisals seen here. But why not go that little extra mile and answer the phone in a more civilised manner? How many seconds does it take do that? If they can't do so, they should disengage the phone or get an answering machine. Face-to-face or phone, they are still customers and should be treated fairly.

John 3:16 is a great place. One of the most welcoming. Just that sometimes, you have 20 customers waiting in a small shop served by 3 or 4. Ask yourself why they are so popular?
