Anyone considered selling Canon gear and switching to Nikon?

You kept emphasize on you're comparing/discussing.. But from what i can see and read. To me at least. You've gone way far and beyond that.
hmm... I really don't understand and I'm actually quite surprise people are still replying and this thread is still on the front page.

Do you see the irony?

Honestly, what I don't understand is that if you've never had the thought of switching over ever.....why are YOU posting in the thread? If you haven't ever had the thought of switching the thread really isn't for you is it?.......but here you are again.

I sold my canon to switch to olympus.

LOL maybe we should all be off loading our dSLR gear whilst it's still worth something before it all becomes "quaint" and "antiquated" by mirrorless technology ;)

I don't print massive prints (never ever have I printed a massive print for my or someone elses wall).
I can't tell that any photo has been shot with such and such a body or lens.
I have a small fortune invested in top end Canon gear.
I don't get hung up on DR.
I do really like the ability to crop deep into an image and still have a wonderful image. So for me high mp is something that I would like.
Am I a malcontent? I seriously must be :( I just hope that Canon can turn *SOME* things around and make me feel that I have invested wisely. Until that day I'll probably keep thinking about how green the grass is on the other side of the fence like lots of us do.

Bro, you see, you don't have an issue with Canon equipment. You loved it so much, but your problem is, you love to crop so much so you'd like to have high MP.

Why not consider either to get a super-telephoto, or move closer, or re-compose so that you won't have to crop?

Seriously, I don't do crop unless necessary because it's extra work, it's kind of lazy man's job. I prefer to get things correct inside the camera if possible. And in any case, when I do crop, I find the perspective changed totally, it may not look that nice or as nice as you may have conceptualized what it would have been :)

lol.. i knew it. I've expected you to post something like this. Na.. if you realize my post is directed to you. Nothing on the gear..
I'll make a move now. (You dont have to reply to this..but..well. just saying its really your choice)
Good luck and.. all the best.

But I would be lying if I said that I'm not worried about Canons future at the moment. I really hope that they haven't forgotten us still photo guys. Video improvements don't mean the slightest thing to me (though I can appreciate how they do to other people).

lol. I do not have such a noble sentiment towards any brand though. I don't care for the future of whatever camera. If Canon was to fail, it will fail, no point worrying about it... and if that really came to pass, then I will switch... doesn't actually affect me... except that my gears will go down the drain though (but I believe I am still able to fetch some money by selling them away).

Actually if you look at it this way, video improvement is a big thing, in the past our mobile phone are pure mobile phone and when someone slap a camera on the mobile phone, I had called it a stupid move, afterall a mobile phone is for me to call other people with the convenience of being anywhere in the country or out of the country. But now, I find myself unable to live without my cam phone. This is the same thing to DSLR. When I got myself a second hand 40D, I couldn't understand why people would want a DSLR with video function, you want to take video, use a viewcam! But after I got my 7D... well... tat is a different story...

So... yeah, a good video mode is something that many people would have craved and so it is not a small innovation or addition (whatever you wish to call it).

As to high ISO performance, Canon's high ISO performance is something that can be lacking behind for their APS-C camera (I feel) when compared to other brand's camera (except for the m4/3 camera), maybe due to the smaller sensor that Canon sported... but that is definitely not the case for her FF camera. What I see is that the AF of 5DmkII is seriously nothing to boast about, but the 5DmkIII had solve this problem. And if I had the budget to get the 5DmkIII, I am definitely going to be a happy user. If you compared D800's high ISO performance with 5DmkIII, I would say that the 5DmkIII win marginally, but D800 do out-resolve 5DmkIII by pretty much... so it is up to what you want. I want great high ISO noise performance over massive MP, but that is again me only.

I would be lying when I say, I never think of jumping to another wagon... or I would not have gone ahead and play with other brands camera. But... will, like I mentioned before, I always come back to Canon... bcos I like Canon at this moment.

Thats a good point. My longest lens is the 100-400mm and I have the 1.4x & 2x TC's

Some more good points.

Would you like the resolution that the D800 is offering? How long till Canon can match it?
Have you been comparing the output images from the 5d3 and the D800 ?

Do you feel that Canon users are missing out on much?

Be contented of what you have my friend.

Constant comparing and upgrading for no clause other than being wanting to be in the trend will do you no good.

The man behind the camera is more crucial than his gears.

Most importantly must know your photographic interest - hobby or profession, ease of handling or just showing off.

My two cents...

Thats very good advice and thanks.

Why need to sell all your gear to move to another camp? Can just save up, take up some additional assignment/part time, and grab the body + some essentials lens for a start. Can always rent or borrow other lens until your pocket become deeper again and buy them.

I'm curious. Over on Photography On The Net forum, there is a fotoworx who signs off as Jim in his signature.

As of 5 days ago, he claims that he has yet to buy his 5D MkIII in the MkIII photo thread. Heck, the next post down, another poster says 'I thought you've already gotten yours!' And there is no reply to this post. Oh guess what, he loves the pictures being churned out.

He tells off some dude complaining about how Canon has disappointed him with the MkIII to jump ship and stop whining.

On Clubsnap, there is a fotoworx whose real name is Jim, as per his profile.

He says he has gotten a MkIII and creates a thread on how much Canon has let him down and whines about it but refuses to make the change. Oh, and he's been doing so since he claims he's gotten the MkIII

Coincidence, ladies and gentlemen? You decide.

He says he has gotten a MkIII

He did? Can you quote where he says that please?

Your user name is very apt, let's see just how apt it really is. I have some nappy wipes with Aloe Vera on them if you'd like one to wipe the egg off your face.

since no one likes to talk civilly, thread closed.
