Anyone considered selling Canon gear and switching to Nikon?

3) Just be happy with what you have (before/after purchasing) and stop comparing.

Then again, I'm with you on option 3. Let's us enjoy the hobby with what we have. We can compare marbles till the cows come home and it will never end.

If it did exist, you'd still be shooting with the very first digital camera and lens that you ever owned wouldn't you, because you would never have compared or looked at, nor read any reviews of any other body or lens because you'd be completely satisfied because as you know it's the photographer and not the gear so there would NEVER ever be a need for you to update...... and you wouldn't know what to update to anyway...because YOU don't compare.


Comparing lenses and bodies IS a HUGE and enjoyable part of the hobby. It's never going to go away and thankfully Canon and Nikon have to keep duking it out and we are the winners (though it costs our wallets).

You chase and like to use the latest technology. I've just done a search on your recent posting history. So please don't try to "learn" me. I've read your own posts discussing this and that feature of different bodies and comparing them......but thats all good and part of the hobby, it's just a discussion......long live discussion. If you have NEVER had even the most fleeting thought of switching to Nikon, well thats you. I'm pretty sure that I'm not Robinson Crusoe in my thoughts and all by my lonesome ........I'm just openly discussing that thought.

Would I ever do it? Doubt it, I just have way wayyyy to much invested in Canon glass and other accessories. Though do I feel a little let down by Canon? Yes, yes I do.

What Nikon body were you using when you made the switch?

When I went from the 5Dc to the 5DMKII the increase in resolution was absolutely amazing to me. The cropping factor was fantastic. So *I* honestly would have been over the moon for the 5DMKIII to have been 36mp.

AND.......we pulling the wool over our own eyes if we don't think that Canon is going to go higher mp.

We sound like all the D700 users who used to blindly say that 12mp was all they needed when they secretly used to lust after the resolution of the 5DMKII at nearly double the mp.

Sorry......I just can't shake the feeling that the 5D3 is destined to be written down in history as one of those stop gap models.......soon to be quickly superceded and leaving their owners feeling a little hard done by.

Was on D300, briefly considered the D800 then felt it didn't suit my shooting style.

Think spend more time learning about your new toy and learning from others to improve your skills are more productive and most importantly....... use more, shoot more and enjoy the toy rather than trying to feed ones EGO.... :devil:

U think u own camera because u using nikon? Y not compare nikon with leica? M9? I think u not upgrade ur camera. Just use photoshop. Even failed picture can be as good as u want it. Comparing things before we bought is a good thing to do. But ask the right question and it will lead u to the knowledge that u want to learn. Stop bashing around. i was seriously considering the switch to Nikon. Having used D90 before I acknowledge that the dynamic range offered by Nikon is superior to Canon. But considering the losses I incur from selling off my gear and the expensive costs of Nikon's full frame lenses I think I'll stick with Canon and upgrade to mk III when the time is right. I shoot mainly my family, food and some still life from time to time, so I decided I don't need Nikon's DR but Canon's warm color tones.

Maybe I'll get a D3200 in the future just to satisfy my landscape fetish during the golden hours.

I dunno when price drop. I just bought when I felt the price was within my budget. Didn't think about waiting for price to drop cos I wanted to enjoy taking pics.

Going back to this thread, I believe not a few people prefer d800 than 5d3, not canon vs Nikon. However, it make canon fans unhappy, especially they are the 1st batch of people to buy 5d3. If you are buying some stocks not worth the money you paid, you will lose your money finally.
