Some items worth buying online. Especially high end lenses. Now canon has rebates in USA. Ship to Vpost and you will enjoy that rebate.

I'll calculate for you in details for your 400D.

(1) Rebel XTi Body only--- US$519
(2)Shipping -------------- US$62
Total-------------------- US581
Today's exchange rate--- 1.44
Total-------------------- SGD 836.64
After Bank charges 2% -- SGD 853.37
(YES!!!!!!!!!!! all the bank charge around 2% for oversea Credit card transactions)
After GST 7% ---------- SGD 913.11

Local price ~~ SGD 1020 with 2GB CF card and book (worth ~SGD 50). Saving of 60 bucks is not worth it for a Camera since it is more prone to mulfunction than the lens. You will have peace of mind under local warranty for additional 60 bucks.

:):):):)

But if you buy Canon EF 24-70 2.8L, You will save SGD 200 off the MO price here or 350 off Local price. Ha ha...

Sorry to OT slightly. If I buy a canon lens from Adorama or B&H, then how is the warranty registered?

thanks mtunnlin! :)
But er, where can u get body for 1,020? the best price i got so far is $1,040. And i'm getting it in couple of day.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but i heard all canon lenses have int'l warranty. So can just go to ur local shop to fix i guess.

Broadway Photo has also gone by the names Infiniti and Infinity when "selling" cameras and computers. They never, ever seem to deliver but they always take the money.

Adorama on the other hand, is the only camera dealer I trust online. B&H has sold gray market cameras in the past, so I don't trust them. I might need my warranty some day.

Hi Helen,

I am aware that Adorama is a highly reputed store in the US. It is great that you have picked up a posting in the forum and have gone the extra mile to reassure us overseas shoppers of the great service your store is reputed for.

I look forward to my next purchase from Adorama.

Best Regards,

Tony

hmm im thinking of buying online too
looks like adorama is the way to go
but anyone experienced faulty cameras or lens before?
what if you need to send it back for an exchange?

I just checked the BBB (Better Business Bureau), and apparently..

However for Adorama,

Adorama also happens to be a BBB online member..

I will avoid vpost usa as must as possible. :dunno:

The BBB doesn't really have much control. They can only do something about companies which care about their reputation.

I've noticed Broadway/Infinity/Infiniti Photo/Computer for the past 6 or so years. They go from one alias to the next but the theme is clear: impossible prices. I always feel good when I save someone from them. :)

Yea.. But I'm saying that broadway has a bad rep with BBB so it's best to steer clear =D

I've seen other Club Snap users comment on using B&H photo in the past and haven't heard anything negative about them. Their prices seem competitive. I'm planning to make an order in the near future through them.

Thank you. We appreciate your kind words.

Wow, I'm impressed with the reply by adorama. but I won't really depend on what she says lah. After all, she only said they'll "consider'. But I doubt they'll help cover the bill if we're outside US. Besides, after checking B&H have cheaper shipping fee, so i think i'll buy from them. Difference is about US$40. That's quite alot right.

ANd after calculating, I can make a saving of about S$260 if i buy online. Worth it right? esp since B&H sounds like a trustworthy website ;)

"Tensai", Hi

What I actually said was: "Should a problem arise with one of your purchases within the warranty period, we are more than happy to give consideration to you having such an item repaired locally, with the repairs billed to us". In general terms, we would look at this as an option to save time & uneccesary messing around for both of us. Nevertheless, your warranty with Adorama is water-tight!

Sincerely

Helen Oster

Wow, now B&H also comes to ClubSnap... Henry, saw your post on dpreview's 'Canon SLR Lens talk' forum regarding the PMA coupon codes and I thought you have handle that incident really well. Gave your side of the story and the stance of your company and then stay away and let the forumers have their say.

Perhaps you can elaborate more on B&H's handling of warranty repairs on overseas purchases so Singapore customers know exactly what to expect when they have problem with their warranty claims.

I'm reluctant to generalize since each situation is individual and has individual variables. Suffice it to say, for the present discussion, that B&H will stand behind the "grey market" products we sell and will do what's right to make sure the customer is satisfied.

It's great to hear that both US retailers have an online presence here - it definitely encourages the local photography community to purchase from the online retailers in US.

I live in the States right now. Must say that B&H and Adorama are both really reputable companies to buy from.

If you really want to push it a little, search for the product you want in pricegrabber.com, then read the reviews of the vendors with cheaper options. I bought from 400D from beach camera last year, something from buydig, sigma 10-20 from photo for less inc, 430EX from PCnation. All arrived in good time and no problem faced so far. But I always pay with Amex, which has a great customer protection policy.
