i've checked recently its $90 a piece of item if they are out of warranty

Hi all

I just sent in my camera for calibration.
My Camera body is just bought but lense like 4 yrs.
There is a charge.
According to CSC, they calibrate the lense to the camera body not the body to the lense or maybe vice versa.
In short, i was charged S$60 and S$4.20 for gst.
Collecting today.
Guess that the latest news.

Cheers
So Canon has a 33% discount for people with a camera within warranty when calibrate their lenses?

Just wonder, how useful if we send our lens & body for calibration? Or calibration just apply on lens?

All my lens and body are still under warranty, is it good to send for a free calibration before the warranty expired?

Haha, sounds like back side itchy, but it would be great if calibration helps.....becoz i always think that my kit lens is abit soft (as compared to some other SUPER SHARP pics that taken by other members using kit lens as well)

Anyone can advise?:D

Canon will calibrate lenses TO your camera body but the calibration is all on the lenses. This is sometimes necessary when the camera body is considered off standard so even if CSC calibrate the lens alone to their factory standard, it will still be off when it is mounted on your camera.

As mentioned previously, CSC will avoid calibrate lenses against a certain camera body because there will be more work for them later on when every time you add a new lens. They will usually do it only after lens calibration alone is still not good enough.

It is within your rights to send the lens and body in for calibration but if you are not seeing any issue with the lens, then how will you know if your lens and camera just sit in CSC store room for a week without anyone touching it and then return to you and claim calibration is done?

Now, I am not saying CSC is doing that but who knows? With so many people sending their lenses and bodies for calibration for fun, if I were CSC, I would be tempted to do that since these people will never know the difference anyway. ;p

Since its under warrranty, why not?

I was told by CSC that if your camera body is off standard, they will first adjust your body to the standard (or within the allowable zone) before they start adjusting the lenses to your body. Else, they will only adjust the lens without touching your body.

My wallet now burning... 2 lenses out of warrranty and now being charged $64.20 (include GST) each... Total is over $120... :hung:

For bros who are considering getting their lenses calibrated, better go fast fast since after this thread, CSC will be flooded with lens calibration requests.

The normal one week lead time will become longer and with Chinese new year coming up, better go early otherwise you might be without your camera during CNY. ;p

I calibrated my 6 L lenses (16-35F2.8, 24-105F4, 85F1.2, 135F2, 200F2, 300F4) with my 1.5 years old 1D3 6mths ago FOC leh.....and I made them rush the calibration within 3 days cos I needed the equipment urgently.

nice.

I think when they see people with 1 series camera automatically under CPS. So everything is free when comes to servicing

So Canon has a 33% discount for people with a camera within warranty when calibrate their lenses?

It guess it depends on the lens - there is a servicing price list on the canon site.

icic...thz bro for the info...
so..may i assume all camera comes in so call "calibrated Default" setting when first purchase?

Not true. Body can be completely off.

However, they do calibrate your lenses to your camera on request but:
[1] if you switch camera body, your lenses might need to re-calibrate again so this will not work for people sharing lenses with more than one camera body. Or,
[2] every time you add a new lens, you will have to send both your new lens and camera to CSC for calibration.

Not true. Canon must first ensure body is calibrated to a common standard. Then, all lenses are calibrated to that same body. I have calibrated lenses to a specific body, and they tested fine on another body.

I have also bought new lenses and they were great out of the box.

I just sent in my camera for calibration.

That is unfortunate. My experience is the same as Lightning. Old lenses, brand new body: calibration is free as long as you know what you're doing. :D

Get them to check camera to a common standard. Then, calibrate your lens to your camera. That is ideal. No horse run. And free.

Matching of lens to body must be perfect like what this article says.

It is within your rights to send the lens and body in for calibration but if you are not seeing any issue with the lens, then how will you know if your lens and camera just sit in CSC store room for a week without anyone touching it and then return to you and claim calibration is done?

That will be a despicable thing to do. And it can be easily verified with live view focusing.

I think their website got mention if you own 1D series and L lenses you qualify for CPS
