Any Wedding Photographers here?

I'm using my Alpha 350 to shoot weddings. Before digital became the rage, I used Dynax 7 to shoot weddings.

Agree with Agetan and many others. Camera and accessories are just tools. The important thing is to be familiar with your tool so that they function like a part of your body so that you focus on getting the picture rather than how to use your tool to take the picture. For eg. in badminton, you don't wonder how, but rather you decide where to place the smash to win that point.

As a little reply here. I am in no way sponsored by any company for the equipment I used. It's a matter of preference and although equipment helps but I must qualify that there is no perfect camera but one has to know the equipment well enough.

frankly, sometimes it does matter. though most DSLRs can get the job done, the type of camera used is sometimes 'branding' or 'packaging'.

Although experienced photographers can take better wedding shots with their camera phones (some with lots of MP!!) than a noob can with MF camera, how many SOUGHT-AFTER or FAMOUS PROFESSIONAL wedding photographers do u see with such a setup? How will a multi-million dollar wedding be like if the million-dollar wedding photographer uses a PNS or a low-end cheapo-looking DSLR? it will reflect badly on the organiser especially if he is the flashy sort who goes for brands....

Another reason is that the professionals may use the top gears to create a barrier of entry to this industry when they make top gears an expected setup so when clients see a lesser known gear, they will suspect the quality of the work of the photographer who doesn't....

But sometimes, the gears do justify their prices with better IQ or enables the photographers to reduce their workflow.

For professional, I don't think you will care what people see what you use. The reason why we use top end lenses and top end bodies, purely for reliability purposes. Something will withstands high level of usage yet still working perfectly day in day out.

Most people don't even ask you what camera you are using when they book your service if they deem your photographic style suited their need. At least we don't get that from our clients.

If you lose a job because of price or equipment you use, seriously, you don't even have to worry about it.

So, don't worry and take what you want with what you have.

Actually I quite like the shutter sound of the KM and Sony cams which is closer to that of a mechanical cam. I was using my cheapo KM 5D for a shoot with a lady friend recently and she commented that my cam really sound like what a cam should sound like and not like those 'fake' electronic camera sound (as in those PnS kind).

Have you try switching to Burst mode and have her hear the series of shutter? Nice to hear.. but abit heart pain some time.. :sweat:

I find shutter sound important, a nice shutter sound is a pleasure to hear , best i've heard among the alpha lineup is the a700, a900 being a close second. A900 has a nice thick texture to it.

IMO the a900's shutter sounds a bit lazy

Due to the mechanical design. Burst mode sound louder, single shoot sound a little softer. But it won't affect your picture quality. When i shooting i only focus the subject rather than shuttle sound haha.

No problem for you... your A900 can take the extra shutter count... :bsmilie:

A-700 that I have seems to work better than A-900.. bad luck maybe? but 20k on shutter isn't any close to 50% than the expected count.

How did it die? You got a lemon? Did you get it repaired then?

Woah! I think this might be the first failure of the A900 in the world? What happened? The A900 just didn't light up? Do let us know the aftermath... thanks!
