Any user reviews of Sony WX1?

All photo straight from cam, nothing done except for the pano shot where I crop it.

Thanks... did you do any PP? It looks like there was NR done on the chroma noise... I would most surprised if the chroma noise was absent in the original jpeg? The details are completely lost in the b&w shot while the other shots are not so indicative due to the extreme dynamic range created by the spotlights...

Well pretty impressive where the chroma noise is concerned... but still the details are quite bad...

It is really not worst than any of the top compact P&S camera out there at low light high iso unless you are comparing it against a DSLR. To me it is actually usable all the way up to ISO3200 in the twilight antishake mode without a tripod. Like I always say got picture better than no picture. :bsmilie: That's why I have camera for every situation just like you have lens on a DSLR for different situation.
If you compare it against any 24mm P&S before this only the LX3 can match. The rest are like.....

BTW in the twilight antishake mode it takes 6 pics in succession to create the low noise pic but not sure if that affects the details if the camera is not held steady as it will layer the 6 images to create a single image, maybe if put on a tripod it may be better but it defeats the purpose. I guess they may be able to improved on the technology. Also I should say that the noise reduction applied is a little more aggressive but is of a different nature and can't really be compared with normal noise reduction since they are also HDR (some form of it) on the twilight mode. In any case I believe they will improve on all the above since this is first gen.

6 shots... shouldn't affect cos it's an electronic shutter... :dunno:

wrong, the shutter used in WX1 is mechanical shutter.. its listed somewhere in sony website.. wonder what's the actual expected life shutter? D90 is known for 150,000 shutter life cycle..

what about WX1? maybe 15,000?

seems like the purple fringing in WX1 is quite bad.. look at the ISO Range Testing photos.. click on the photos to see the full-res photos...

even at resized photos, the purple fringing and CA are  to my eyes

that's my real reason for dumping F70EXR back then.

can sony fix this in WX2?

its low light hi-ISO is impressive, but that cannot be applied for daylight and indoor shots...

Strange for you to show so much interest and concern for a camera that you do not own and have no plans of purchasing.

There's no perfect camera, esp so for this segment.

Either a camera does well in low ISO or high ISO, it's due to limitation of the small sensor. Even big sensors and SUPER expensive lenses have their pros and cons.

When a camera do well in daylight, it's being criticised for it's high ISO. When it does good in high ISO, it's being criticised for it's daylight shots. This seems neverending isn't it?

If we are so particular in everything, we are just stressing ourselves unnecessarily.

Have used many PNS of different brands and models before and I have to admit the improvements have been vast esp for the past 2-3years.

However, after seeing many of my previous photos taken, I have told myself to stop PIXEL PEEPING too much...as this doesn't do good to my wallet and my eyes. Might as well spend more time taking photos of my family and enjoying the fun moment of the photos, rather than trying to spot for noise and purple fringing all the time.

P.S: He is probably so concern as he really hope to own a camera that has same initials as his real name.

I wasn't referring the shutter life... I was referring to being able to take 6 shots handheld and having the exact same framing since the HDR stacks 6 pics one on top of another... an electronic shutter would mean no moving parts, no vibration and better accuracy... plus can be faster too frame to frame for any given shutter speed...

The TX1 and WX1 come with a 10.2 megapixel resolution, and using a mechanical shutter, these models eliminate motion blur and capture fast actions or moving objects by way of high speed continuous shooting at 10 frames per second.

wondering what's the lifespan for the shutter... since its mechanical, its bound to fail sooner or later....

still waiting for more reviews, F200EXR is respectable, vibrant colours.. but the twilight mode for WX1 is impressive, like F70EXR. However, F70EXR has got inferior hi-ISO performance compared to F200EXR and has horrific purple fringing..

some daylight shots from WX1 also shows it has significant amount of purple fringing and CA... :sweatsm:

Then go look for a second hand F31d. It might have what you want to look for in a sompact camera.

Yep but I was looking at the point that nobody can hold the camera at the same position no matter how short the burst is. :dunno: and if you have trees in the pic got to take into consideration wind factor etc. Anyway too much to think for a P&S PQ so anybody who have the a cam just go out and shoot and have fun. That is what it is suppose to do and not think too much about technicalities. :)

No need more review lah if you hate it so much just go get others that you like loh. Review are not necessary correct as well. Nothing beats what you like and every cam has it's pros and cons (including DSLR or even medium format). Set your criteria and see if you can find a cam to your liking or one that suits you most. For me, most will know that if it is not 24mm or below it must have special abilities before I will consider it. But if it is 24mm well I have a soft spot for it.
Still waiting to see if the Canon Ixus 200 is of any competition in terms of features and low light abilities.

nah, F31fd has poor purple fringing and horrific CA... super narrow angle, with poor DR... :bsmilie:
