Hi, any one out there that can recommend the cheapest ultra wide angle lens on the market today? I'm interested in a Nikon mount.

The most common concern is on:

i. CA
ii. Wideness
iii. Sharpness

You're the first to look for the cheapest... If you don't foresee yourself using it so often, renting will be the cheapest solution.

Cheers

Russian MIR 20mm f3.5
is the cheapest at around $170 or so

check around the B&S section
very sharp and heavy
but manual focus only

Tokina 17mm f/3.5 ATX/ATX Pro?

tokina 12-24, sigma 10-20, tamron 11-18.. all at the S$800 range. wide but not wide like fish-eyes.

tokina will be realeasing a 10-17mm f/3.5-4.5 fisheye lens soon. interesting lens i say.

plus if you won't be using the 10-16mm much, tokina will also be realeasing a 16-50mm f/2.8 lens. or both the tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 and sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 lenses are also receiving excellent reviews. i'd wait for the tokina though, might cause prices to dip a bit.

I notice the Tamron 11-18 is not designed for full frame sensors which is good if you're not planning on upgrading your camera. Likewise the Canon is an EF-S lens, which means you can kiss it goodbye if you upgrade to say the 5D.

can't be used at the wider focal lengths only. the vignetting will disappear by certain focal lengths for different aps-c designed lenses. some claim that the vignetting will disappear by 13mm (iirc) for the sigma 10-20mm.
