Hi, I gt a sony a200 and just bought a 2nd hand 70-210 F4 beercan, gonna try this lens this week end at the Miss Singapore World Semi Finals 2009. Possible to just shoot tele without flash at F4 and ISO 400 or flash is a must? I dun have ext flash so tryin avoid using built in flash. Any advice pls?

I am also new to DSLR and not a flash expert.

I feel that if you are at events, flash is quite a essential tool, however, since it's going to be quite well lit and if you are shooting from a distance (guessing it since you using tele), then flash is quite ineffective as in it can't reach that far.

If you are quite up close, then probably can use flash for filling in the shadows.

yeah, i gg to use ISO 800 w e built in flash unless I get a gd 2nd hand offer for ext flash b4 the wk end..lolz ;p

There should be. Otherwise, you can just use the free ones like Picasa.

Anyone who used spot metering w AEL HOLD or AEL TOGGLE care to share their experiences? After reading a A200 handbook, I tried indoor daytime w curtains closed shooting my room with ISO 100 at F5.6. To my surprise, the pic turned out real bright and sharp. Just curious, issit true tt for our infolithium batteries, we should charge them b4 they go completely dead? I was told by a fren this reduces the batters' life cycles.

Hi everyone

I'm thinking of purchasing the A200 single lens kit (SAL1870) from Best Denki @ $888

It comes with
- 8gig CF
- Sony Battery
- Sony Bag
- Tripod

I was advised by the salesperson to get the 5 year warranty provided by Best Denki @ 7% of the retail price..

so the potential damage is $950.16.

I have tried the new a230/330 and i find it too small for my hands...having problems trying to grip it well..so looking at the "old" alphas..

any advice??? TIA!!! :)

You may want to check with MS Color or Cathay Photo. I think they can give a better price than that. A200 is a very good camera for its price (or best should i say?), get it before the stock runs out.

I'm mainly concerned with the warranty thing..so the Besk Denki 5 year warranty looks tempting...

With the warranty..i think if next time i wanna upgrade, it would be easier to resell i guess :)

If it gives you a peace of mind then go ahead. Anyway I think still better to check with MSC and CP for price. A200 is popular and not hard to resell.

Just meet there straight. You should be able to see Alpha bros there. I believe there will be bros wearing the Alpha T-shirts.

Hi all,
I've been using A200 for a few months now and find it very good entry level dslr.
I found out the kit lens that comes with it is a bit soft on the image quality.
Any suggestion of any entry level lens? I'm thinking to buy SAL50F18 which I find is the cheapest among sony lens.

Welcome to the Alpha family.

The kit lens is one of the better ones among the others and the 50mm f1.8 lens is a cheap and good prime lens. If you do not intend to upgrade to a full frame cam, it's good enough. You will get what you paid for, for a better kit lens you can consider the Sony 16-105mm, CZ 16-80mm or the Tamron 17-50mm. They are all very sharp lenses.

Thank you Glador, i'm more keen on macro and portrait photography rather than zoom (still learning though). So I think Tamron 17-50mm looks good.
