Hi all,
I'll be in osaka in Jan, thus wana go take a look at some camera shops...Did a google search and found the below link.

Anyone knows of any reliable stores there?

Thanks and Merry Christmas...

Yes BIC camera at Namba station is not bad, Yodobashi at Osaka station also good. Both are very big(and reliable) stores where you can look, see and touch....the cameras:bsmilie: . However, their prices are not the cheapest.

Since you are planning to go Namba station to see BIC camera, goto Namba City South Wing, there is a camera store by the name of kamera no kitamura (literally it means Camera's Kitamura). The store's name is in Katakana, it helps if you understand some basic Japanese. I find the prices offered are better than BIC Camera and Yodobashi.

PC Bomber Osaka(exit from Namba City South Wing, its half way between Namba City and Den Den Town, 10 mins walk) offers very good prices for camera and lenses. However, they do not stock them in Osaka shop and you have to email or call them in advance to order.

Osaka doesn't have many camera stores to choose from. But the best there is will be Ohyabashi Camera near the Umeda bus station.

They are open to negotiation wrt to pricing and they don't endorse the warranty. i.e. they don't write down the date of purchase on it. All other stores esp the big ones like BIC and Yodobashi will do this.

Their prices are the cheapest in Osaka AFAIK and I visited all of them when I was there in Oct. And their service is superb - they were the ONLY store (out of ones in Osaka, Nagoya and Tokyo) to willingly allow me to check the lens prior to purchase. The others were very reluctant and only relented because I was making big ticket purchases. Of course, YMMV.

It is imperative you check the lenses prior to purchase. Nikon lenses are not made to the same high standard as they were in the mid-late 90s and you will find unacceptable defects even in high end lenses like the 28-70 AFS and 17-35 AFS. So check carefully.

Thanks for the input. Yes, i do realise that cos i read in the photo guide japan that some advise to put the english words "international warranty" on the warranty card if not it will be void in their countries...and one ever encountered in Yodabashi that the store is not so called tourist-listed so dun have the 5% consumption tax waived even though buyer is a tourist.

thanks...

Yodobashi and BIC-Camera doesnt really have great prices for their stuffs, but you get a huge shopping complex with tons of camera equipments which might just make things alot more convenient for you =)

many stores in Japan use a point-based card system instead =)
