Any one thinking of getting a M9?

available in NZ? where specifically? can claim tax? maybe fly there also end up cheaper... pls share

I am afraid NZ doesn't have VAT refund. I was also looking at getting one from there and went to a reputed camera shop in Auckland. The sales person confirmed no VAT refund and also no stocks of M9. Counter-checked on the VAT issue with NZ Customs and got the same answer.

The only way to get VAT refund (if the retailer is willing to pass the VAT refund back to you) is for the camera shop to export the M9 out to HK (where there isnt GST or import duties) and you collect it or get your friend to collect it for you from HK.

I was in Auckland twice for business in the last 3 months but still came back with no M9. :dunno:

Sigh!

Hi vincent, no kidding! wesley's a nice chap.

Hey guys, sorry for slightly OT, however since we are on the M9, what do you think of the Mac Book Air (highest spec), running Lightroom with M9's DNG files? I am really tired of lugging around a heavy laptop. I do need a big screen though for my eyes (age) and for AutoCAD. As I travel almost every week, its taking its toll. Any recommendations, comments, advice?

dankwan...U r the film guy and suddenly getting so digital...:bsmilie:...Mac Air is good for lugging around due to weight...no problem at all...but screen is too small for CAD...iPhoto is good for fast general viewing...recommend to use the big screen 27" iMac quad-core at home... great for the M9 big RAW file...

I wouldn't recommend the Air for dedicated processing. It might be fine if you're skimming through a few files, but once your library or directory is 100s or 1000s of M9 18MP pic heavy, you'll run out of processing horse power. You'll be better served with a Macbook Pro for about the same price, albiet with a slight bit more weight to lug around. You can also hook it up to a large external lcd monitor at home to look at your pics in all it's wonder.

Thanks kwylee for the advice. Weight is the biggest issue for me along with screen size. I wouldn't do my primary pp on the MBA anyways.

Well, if portability is key then go for it. I have a Macbook Pro which is about 1+KG heavier.
But you can't go that wrong with any Mac for photography use. Match the Air with the iPad soon.
heh

kwylee is right, it won't go wrong with the latest MB too, I'm using the alu unibody and it gives me mor than what I need, even for imovies....

yeah, chasing the elusive m9! like watching leonardo's movie "catch me if you can"... hahaha, I kinda of give up getting one here and HK, rather in Asia, I was in US recently and I didn't have luck too, my next trip will be in Europe, lets see...!! the chase continues.

Just came back from BKK and saw one shop in CentralWorld asking about 13k SGD and they have stock ;p

was just in HK and verified through my friends at tin cheung, HK$75,888 minimum

Dan, good to see you got yours successfully....

It's probably easier to find the M9 in Asia than in the West at this juncture, looking at the M9 delivery posts on the Leica site. I suspect most sets are going to China, Japan and Hong Kong. Singapore probably falls slightly below that priority list.

Another test shot - by Ben - using my camera, unprocessed.

Had one come my way a few days ago, but Dan said he had it already (he wanted one before CNY so tried to help him), so let it go. Not that hard to get actually.;)
