Hi everyone,

just checking, if any one has successfully brought cameras and lens from amazon?

I checked out the prices and it's way more attractive compare to buying from singapore.

Like 25% saving.

Any suggestions, experience and comments are welcome.

cheers!

I think it's not possible coz they can't ship to here. Not sure why. :dunno:

Not that on point - but I just ordered a flash from Amazon, and am getting it delivered via vpost. I just an email saying that the flash has reached vpost in the US, so hopefully I can get it soon once i make the payment for vpost.

If you try to get the item sent direct from Amazon to Singapore, then it probably can't be done. I tried it for the flash, and it said that there are geographical restrictions or something and the order cannot be processed.

The problem will be if the flash is faulty - usually even if the seller (Amazon in this case) has a flexible return policy, you still need to send the darn thing back to US at your own cost, which is gonna cost a pretty penny and may not be worth it at the end of the day. I had that issue with something else (not camera-related) I bought from the US (luckily I found the problem after I took the thing apart and managed to fix it).

Hope this helps!

yes that's what i intend to do, using Vpost to send it over to me.

i've done that before. No problems.

great!
i will try when i have more courage.

don't u need to pay GST if u shipped through VPOST and the value of the item is more than SGD$300?

yup, tink i saw on ICA website dat states if an item dats CIF(courier, insurance n freight)charges is more den $400,GST will be charged.correct me if im wrong ;)..which means u might jz end up paying more den wat u xpected...got tempted by offers on amazon too but still holding back fer nw....

think with GST its still worth it. for eg, the Canon 24mm F/1.4L cost US$1,100 in the US. in S'pore it costs S$2,300 which is about US$1,600!

One thing that you have to take note when buying stuff from Amazon. The price that you saw on the amazon.com doesn't mean from Amazon. They sell stuffs from other 3rd party seller, eg. Adorama, etc as well.
There is different in pricing from different seller and shipping cost may be added, eg. 24L sold USD1154.97 (free shipment) from Amazon but USD1119 (not included shipment cost) in Ace Photo Digital.

And the most important: Not ALL the sellers in Amazon.com are reliable.

After May, Canon USA likely has a price jump. Check this:

So, you got to order it fast to save more :D

Most of the items sold in the MO/MS section are actually having comparable price if you considering the shippment, GST, bad exchange rate of Credit Card and risk in shipment. That could be another choice for you :D

I have ordered twice from B&H and it's been a good experience. Good prices, fast shipping.

twice i bought from amazon...
no hiccups...
