any news update for a580?

haiz... this thread makes me ponder again... :(

I compared the A55 n A580 specs side by side, have a few qns...
Hope somebody is able to help me with it.

Anti Dust
Based on the spec, there's on Anti-Dust mechanism on A55?

Focus Mode
A580
• Single-shot AF
• Automatic AF
• Continuous AF
A55
• Auto Focus (15-point phase-detection AF system)
• Manual focus
• Face Detection
• AF Tracking

SteadyShot
a580
CMOS - Shift 'SteadyShot INSIDE' system
A55
Super SteadyShot INSIDE

What's the different for each?
Seems like Body only, A580 and A55 is almost the same price.
in terms of AF, which is faster? A55?

Spec are both from dpReview
A55
A580

i thought that Super Steady Shot's the old name? the name that's being used now is Steady Shot Inside. i'm guessing the review was done by someone who's not updated on the terms.

with the A55 you get AF that's constantly on, due to the translucent mirror. with the A580 you don't have that. but the AF should be at the same speed, though i've never used the A580 before. and i think there should still be the anti-dust mechanism. because i've heard the sensor vibrating when switching on/off.

i think the key differences would be the battery life and ergonomics, and the A55 being able to AF at all times.

I already said... hongsien. Can PM him here in CS.

pardon my ignorance...I presume getting from parallel importers or JB/ KL means we have 0 warranty support right?

I am considering whether to get it from our neighbouring country too...

If you buy from Sony official dealers and they provided you with international tourist warranty, then you will have coverage.

Just got the A580. And what an adventure and long day it has been, but I must say it is worth it.

Now I understand why the A580 sells.

It's a very user friendly camera, the menu is rather easy to get use to, and the position of the buttons are well thought out.

For lack of a better word...very "organic"...it grows on you.

Can't wait for the battery to be fully charged. :bsmilie:

Really disappointed with Sony S'pore!.

Was in JB yesterday and it's already available there !!! besides US, Europe, Australia.. already have theirs since Oct 10:thumbsd:

so that means with the international warranty, I can use it for 1 year or 6 months here with Sony Singapore?

was in HK last week... saw a580 for HKD5400... super tempted to get ... am sticking to my a550 for now

1 year coverage by Sony here. But the question is Sony here doesn't sell A580. So I am not sure they will use this as an excuse/reason to reject service it. :dunno:
Wait first brother send in for service then we will see.

There wont be any issues as the service centre is located in Malaysia. I've spoken with CS from Sony Jurong and there shouldnt be any issues. Gotten myself an A580 from HK at HKD $5690.

how much this on SGD?

Salamat Pre. I'm planning to have this in replacement of my a500.

Ok talaga yung A580. Pero maganda din yung A55. Pwedeng bumili din yun sa Johor Bahru, mura din. 950-1000 SGD, body only.

Pare, gamitin mo yung online conversion.

www.xe.com

Pero mahal yun 5690. RRP yata yun. Mga 5450 lang yan sa Mongkok.

Kailangan ba na pinoy ako para pwedeng mag-salita ng tagalog? ;)

Ah, depends. A33/A55 vs. A580, the arguments are very similar...

Sensor wise and ISO performance wise, both are good.
A33 gives you the SLT advantages of fast AF in video, live preview of whitebalance, etc in the viewfinder and no mirror slap.
A580 gives you a meatier, bigger, more ergonomic body and stupidly good battery life (1000-1500 shots).
A580 gives you an OVF, which is easier to use in a studio.

Depends on your needs really.

which particular shop in JB pre?
it's the battery life that I'm attracted also on a580, like a500/550 can take sooo many shots.

Salamat Dre... some told me to have FF to complement A33 or mirrorless (if I want A33 as my main cam) but I am not sure if I am ready for FF... I find A580 attractive I kinda miss the tweaking like my old Olympus E620. I dont do studio shootings (yet)...
