Any news on replacement model for EOS 7D Mark II?

We can debate on and on whether Canon is good and bad, the reality is another different story.

If you guys have the time, talk to the bosses of second hand shops as well as reputable retail stores like Cathay Photo, TK, MS, so forth on the sales of Canon imaging products like cameras, lenses, etc compared to other brands like Sony and Fujifilm, etc, you will be surprised on the sales figures. This is the reality.

Of course, it doesn't concern most photographers because we don't really care how much sales or profits is Canon generating.

What we can discuss is on the survivability of Canon in today era. Will Canon be obsolete in times to come like Nokia?

Canon can still survive now because Canon is a large congolermate which not manufactures imaging products but also in other areas such as semi-conductor, printers, etc.

Hi Jedi can pm me the shop that sells Canon 7D2 at $1.6k plus?

CES is a platform to showcase the capabilities of each manufacturer as well as the future products.

I am suprised that Canon has nothing to show in CES except some compact cameras. Indeed a disappointment.

CES is not the only event to do that.

Yes, there are other major events like Photokina. But why missed CES? This simply means that Canon has nothing to offer until the next major event like Photokina. Time waits no man. If you miss a certain timing, your market shares will be eroded. Sometimes, the erosion could be far worst than one has forecasted.

Hi could we stay relevant to the thread? By straying to other topics, it devalues the content in clubsnap.

Actually, we are indirectly saying there is no 7D2 replacement based on their current marketing strategy. If they offer something better, they are going to affect their "Pro" models like 1DX and 5DS and the C series cameras. If the top do not move, bottom also cannot progress. The best way to know if canon is going to have any replacement for lower end models is to look at the higher end model. 1DX will be replaced first before 7D2. This is Canon's simple way of marketing which is going to cost their business. Their price point for features is totally misaligned with the current market.

The show is over.

Nothing comes out from Canon. No replacement model. Therefore, the price dropped for EOS 7D mark 2 is purely due to market forces such as no demand, low sales, etc.

After Nikon, Fujifilm announced a few new camera models and lenses today.

Based on Canon iteration plan ... 7D2 launched in end 2014, now its slightly more than a year ... for xD series models Canon normally will take at least 3-4 years before replacement based on past history. It is clear that they are now very focus on 5D4 and 1DX mark 2 (if both names are correct) for the upcoming Olympic this year!

The sales and publicity for these 2 models for the Olympic games will be more than enough ... so as we can see even though many seems to complain about Canon lagging behind but the truth is MOST of the professional photographers (esp Journalists and Sports related) are still "Stuck" on Canon systems and hence they will need to just keep tapping on this business ...

I must say that Nikon came out with interesting models like the D5 and D500 which for a canon user like me really feels the "pinch" of "why not Canon do something like this" ...

*One side of Sony FE mount, it came with a bang few years ago but somehow look at their range of lenses for this mount, it is simply insufficient for pros to switch over just like that.. they can't depend on metabones for EF lenses to satisfy their customers. Even the bodies range are quite limited, because a big majority of users (pros, enthusiasts) invested heavily in Canon/ Nikon systems... so many are not making the switch... we can see the slower development of Sony for FE nowadays as compared to when they first launch the FE series...

How many % of market shares do the sports / journalists contribute to Canon bottomline. Professionals don't buy or upgrade their gear unnecessarily. Costs need to be justified. If Canon depends on pro market, then they are in trouble.

The biggest market for any manufacturer will be the mass market / consumer market / hobbyists market.

The consumer market is moving away from Canon in recent years. This is the trend and Canon should take a serious view about it. If Canon continues to be complacent, they will be trouble in times to come.

As we speak, price of brand new grey set has shot up to $1759, up more than $100. This is attributed to higher US dollars.

With the increased in price, it is better to buy Canon Singapore set since the saving is only marginal.
