Smoke... u cannot prevent no matter how long the exposure is. My advice is still to use the BULB mode... don't be greedy to try to take in all the firework. Time yourself properly, don't try to open the exposure for longer than 8 sec. Use a black card if you want (normally I don't).

If lets say the normal range of ISO for a certain model is from ISO 200-1600, then by setting it to Lo or Hi, you can actually force to below 200 or over 1600, however, that would affect the performance of the sensor. So at ISO 100 (Lo) you actually get a worse image compared to ISO 200.

When you start working (I assume you are still a student), you would know that to plan too early is not feasible. Meeting, overseas working trips, sudden occurrences, etc, happened all the time. Sometime we went to work in the morning, met with a freaking incident in one of the factories and we are on the plane in the afternoon (that happen to one of my colleagues... so far mine project is still quite stable).

So normally I will start planning only a couple of days to that event to be more sure... hahahahaha.
