Hi, I am new to this forum.

I like to buy a new digital camera, my budget is between $350-$500.
I will be using to take my baby's photos, as you know baby moves and crawls and walks very fast and sudden. I need a good digital camera, with fast start up and "recovery" time so that i can take more photos to capture my baby smiles and actions.

I don't mind the brand. Just want to get a model that is suitable for my need and budget.
Sincerely hope that people with experiences and kids can give me advises on the brand and model of the camera that I can rely on.

Thanks and Cheers!

nothing beats a fuji when it comes to high ISO performance for a compact.

2nd to Fuji. Great skin tones.

Yeah, does sound like a Fuji to me too, especially since your shots would be indoors.

At least for your budget..

try the Fuji F31fd

fd means = face detection...

so good for focusing fast on baby's face...

also it's picture noise at high iso e.g., 1600 is pretty low... so that's another plus point...

2nd hand 350D with 50mm f1.8 lens.

If second hand DSLR, I'll say second hand S2pro with 50mm f1.8 lens. And a good powerful flash to go with it, how else to light up the place nicely?

Compact, no doubts, go for Fuji F30, F31fd or the new F40. Personally, I'll say the F31fd.

no parents will flash their baby.... high ISO is the way to go.

This may sound personal, but you'll probably want to send me to jail. My two children, ages 3 and 5 now have been flashed since the moment they were born. They have eye-sight better than mine. Note that a natural baby often stares at the sun, that is true especially when you breast feed in the wild. The sun is much more powerful than any flash, and it is a continuous light. Absolutely no problems. God made us that way.

That said, it'll be stupid to put the flash tube right at the eye and fire away at full power. A normal exposure on the baby's face at ISO 100 film with a true TTL flash will not harm the eyes.

for snap shots, you just need a cam that has the least shutter lag will do. dun really need fancy functions etc.

Btw, TS

F31fd review is out! Go check it out, should be dpreview.

Try putting a piece of tissue paper close to your flash (even tiny ones), activate the flash and observe what you see instantaneously (you should see fumes).

Hi All, thanks.
Does F31fd has the least shutter lag?

Thanks,
Zenn
