not sure consider good deal a not...i bought a SD ExtemeIII 2gb CF at $129

I bought Kingston Elite Pro 4GB CF card for $110 at the Active Foto booth.

Eastgear booth selling same thing for $179.

Not sure if $110 is good deal or not, but since so much cheaper then EG, I just bought it.

Thank you for the info. May I know what's the speed of the card? Thanks! :)

OT abit.. hows the parking at expo now? isit very packed?

kingston cf cards have slow read/write speeds, even for the pro versions. better to use ultraII or lexar or trandscend

Went down with my friend and bought the entry level Kingston (? x speed $43) and one from the Ultimate series (133x $72).

After that we did a simple (but unscientific) test of the write capabilities of the cards (plus Lexar 80x). We use a D200 to shoot 20 frames of in RAW format and measure the time from the moment the shutter is pressed until the led light stops blinking (ie all the shots written into cf card).

The results were rather surprising,
1. Kingston normal range: 55s
2. Kingston Ultimate range: 40s
3. Lexar 80x with WA: 40s

All I can conclude is that the performance of the Kingston normal is not all that bad. So for most normal users, it should suffice.

PS: I did not try out the Kingston Elite series, but I have the suspicion that the performance may not be significantly better than the normal range. They could in fact be the same chips but sold differently at a higher price.

SITEX seems to be pretty "sad"... so far, it only seems that memory cards are the only things worth buying there.

I was planning to go on sat morning but now, i'm just thinking if its worth the effort at all.

Anyone else got any good deals there? Photography and non-photography stuff?

I bought 4 x Sanyo 2700mAh for $14.
And 1 Kingston 1GB 50X elilte pro for $32.5, and 1 more 1GB SD card normal speed one for $20.5 at best bargin computers... CHEAP LA! haha
Hi,
Where did you get the Sanyo batteries?

Thanks.

AA sized Batteries
GP 2700mAh $11
Powerex 2700mAh $20. After trade in, you get $5 off. Thus, its $15

For memory cards, the cheapest is at the Active Photo booth. Prices are a little less ($1-$3)than the prices listed in Sim Lim.

Sanyo ENELOOP Batteries, 4pc AA/AAA pack $19 each. available at three stalls that i saw.

ordinary kingston card (orange one) is fine. but have read quite a number of ppl who have corrupt photos, slow speeds with the blue elite pro. dunno if it's just minolta users

My 50x 2Gb Kingston blue Elite pro crashed a couple of times and was much slower than a normal CF. So I returned it for verification and the guy replaced it after performing some IO test. No problem with the new card, so far.

personally i have bad experience with kingston orange and blue colour cards - i didnt time the read speeds but on an average desktop they seem slow and laggy.

trandscend cards 2gb cf and 4gb cf prices not bad (cant remember exactly, apologies) but can buy direct from "memory world" at simlim or funan. my impression of transcend is they have good price for the good speed

alternatively -- go for sandisk extreme IV  ;)

Yup...just came back from the show.....confirm price are controlled......so at the end......I bought the Sony instead(the charger came with indicater...much like the Konoc that I previously own)....$55 with a charger + 4xAA 2700 and free 2xAAA 900

While I walk towards the end at the next hall...discovered the Varta 15 minutes + charger....$39 only....damn "Tui" If you guys interested......check it out......it is a small booth right at the end next to the cafeteria

It always wse to do some homework and search for past user postings on these products before you buy them.

The reason why SLS shops can price lower is due to parallel imports. Warranty differs. Check with the shop who honors the warranty and for how long. Of course, its up to the user to decide if the extra price is worth the warranty.

As for speed, be it 80 120 133 or 150, you'll never get that advertised speed. One brand's 133X can be even slower than another brand's 80x. Search google for users' hands on.

As for good deals, there's only a few that just can't save the show. There are probably better deals next door at John Little.

- Viewsonic VX2025. Folks here used to MO 2 batches worth. Pretty decent 20" LCD for $499 w/ free wine  . Should last us till the OEMs stop pushing out lame CCFL LCDs :sticktong

- QMax Free Wireless Sign up. Get a free webcam. The free Wireless hotspots around SG's has started today.

Agree. My cheap cheap NCP CF has the same writing performance with my previous Twinmos Ultra-X on my PDA.

parking at sitex is crazy. i gave up! it's a 1km queue just to enter the car park and prob another 30 mins wait before u get a lot. then got to jostle your way thru the crowd. unless u really know what u want and the savings is substantial, is it worth?

Verify whether your CF Card is an Authentic Kingston Product. If not, no warranty.
Also, according to one guy in VRForum, the card he just bought is not working.

This issue reminds me of the fake Sandisk CFs......

Park at Airport or pasir ris then take train

I park at East Point then take Bus 38. It's only 4 bus stops travelling time. Total time spent waiting and travelling by bus is always below 20 minutes.
