Its all depends on your needs. If you're looking for a budget, small, all-in-one.. probably A1 is better choice than 300D. If you're looking for scalability, interchangable lens, with low (or no noise) image quality.. DSLR is the way to go.. however, prepare to burn a hole in your pocket.. kekeke

saw one pic from the 300D and the kit lens,WOW!! got noise even in daylight!the pic is shot in cavenage bridge with the fullerton hotel in the background.white bridge with grey hotel.unacceptable....

hmm.. doesn't sound right. Is the pic on web? very curious.. haaa

Hiee...

The noise thingy....yes...no doubt a larger sensor doe have better noise stability....you need to understand that in most digital camera....unless the image processing algorithms include some "noise reduction"...there will still be "noise" in the dark areas of images even in ISO 100...(mainly at higher ISO).

In a photo where darken area which have no significant colour...noise is more obvious. These noises are partly there due to the bayer pattern filters....

In a black or dark low light surface, the sensor may not respond in unison as it have to assume some colour (physically ...low/no light means it need to assume some values). These in turn may introduce noise....

I have downloaded....photos from some sites -original file- for DSLR like the hightly acclaimed 10D, 300D, E-1....and even the SD10......studying the images...you will see that zooming in will reveal rainbowed patches in mosy low light shades.

Lets be frank.....it seem that many users seem to be speaking on behalf of the manufacturers to condemn one brand over another by using the "noise argumaent"...(who one who used film before...would understand......the inherence of noise at higher ISO).....

If There is NO or very low NOISE at ISO 800.....then why do ineed to have ISO 100 in the first place.....get it???

So lets...put aside all these noise thinghy....buy what ever you can afford and need....use the camera...go out ...take more photos!!!!!

Regards,
me

a bit OT but, film does have a place and can coexist with digital...

as mentioned by sulhan (and I agree with him), you will always almost certainly see those bands of rainbow patches in digital photos be it from any professional DC or consumer range DC... this is the limitation of digital photography... even in low ISO 100

to get away from that problem, the other alternative is either even lower ISO (at say 50 which still have noise) or stick to film... the colour tone is much smoother in film than in digital photos... even if you scan with film scanner later... at least I see no rainbow patches...

Like I mentioned earlier, a bit OT... to correlate with the original thread, noise exist in all DC even in low ISO... A1 does have noise but I do not think it will be a major problem like what others are saying in other forums... buy 1 camera that fits your needs and wallet...

OIC now. Thanks.

I think the noise issue of A1 is insignificant based on the sample pics and feedback from other forums also as the image was not viewed at 100%. How often anyone will do that except reviewing a product?

On the other hand, my real enemy for film scanning is GRAIN and SCATCHES! (I'm using SD3 BTW). No intention to upgrade to a better scanner, since I'm waiting for a DSLR replacement for my Dynax 7 *sigh*, so have to do post processing in PS. :p
