Just a word of advice.

4/3 & m4/3 community is a small tight knit community unlike the C & N out there, which is why the response.
Nobody is giving you a cold shoulder, since we are a very open community (with people sometimes owning more than 2 systems). We even welcome those bringing friends with different brand in our outings - so long as they dont out-number us and so long as they mix with us and not squat one corner by themselves.

That is why forming another smaller community is generally frown upon. It is like you are going to marry that camera model and never going to venture out? And then there will be different lense - if you just form a small group and not want to join the bigger one, well then your pool of sharing & molesting (camera lah! want molest other thing you are in wrong forum!) may be smaller.

Grouping is not for ganging up a group but more or a group that use similar equipment where we can refer to each other for its additional functions and uses.

I think it is good to list out those that use the E30 or other models, I think the E620 can be included into this group. Here in KL we constantly refer to same model group for reference. I think the TS here didn't have such intention.

I find E30 is a gem of a camera , I was choosing between E3 and E30 and I decided that E30 has one function that I think was my deal breaker and it is the Front and Back focusing adjustment. Well since having this camera, the function have served me well. Even the 35-100 lens need some fine tuning.

Cheers everyone

my point is - if there is a problem TS want to ask, or share a finding just post it here - to the wider community. no need to establish a formal smaller groupings. that is my 2 cents worth. I am using e3 and I still talks to m4/3 guys and others using different body. heck I still talk to nikon and canon guys too.

Whatever the case is,no body is in the wrong, its just that we try to encourage everyone to share problems, techniques etc rather than having smaller groups discussing on their own

Talking about E30, here's an interesting thread of E1 vs E30 in terms of IQ from dpreview. Not sure which one u guys like but u can see the E1 image has more sheen, or brighter reflection esp on the dark lens body & hood. This is the sheen i always mentioned, it kind of make the image stands out more, better realism, in my context that is :) Totally personal liking & nothing about bashing any brands or models. Since Oly went with Panny NMOS sensor, & all CMOS sensors alike, there's a lack of this realism, resulting in the image looking "flat". The other lower end CCD DSLR (eg, Nikon D3000, Sony A380) has weak signal processing which also resulted in the lack of this realism.

Have fun!!

I agree, the E-1 seems to see better into the shadow in addition to have better colours as compared to the E-30

Its a pity these days no other cam can give this kind of look, well, sort of. As i noted in the E30 hands on, using Studio 2, the E1 actually loses this luster, only Studio 1 yields such quality. Strange. Also as u can see, its not juz about good colour rendering, there's more to it to make the image stands out. Its like putting a drop shadow on the text in Pshop to make it "floats".

If its juz processing, i really hope Oly can reinstall the "POP" look back into the new E-pro. But i doubt it, it has to start with the very fundamental, the signal fidelity of the sensor. Hopefully, the newer sensors from Panny can deliver.

Why did i say "sort of"? Thats because, these days, if u want such qualities, u pay for the M9. Its a lot of money for a lot less, if i were to boldly generalise. No dust buster, no image stabilising for sensor & or lens, no AF. No offence to Leica users, juz a personal opinion.

The other choice wud be Fuji S5 pro, but we all know where it heading. Its a pity Kodak is out of the pic, their DSLR/n/c is pretty interesting, if only they had kept the price lower for wider adoption, say $4.5k (same as 1st 5D) instead of $8k back then.

We juz have to live with whats out there, can't really choose. There's always hope!!

We win some we lose some. I remember an interview with oly where a oly exec shared that one of the main reason for the matsushita sensors was for the development of live-view, at a time when everyone was critic (e330 dpreview's "live-view is a solution looking for a problem" statement)

Without that painful sensor switch, I wonder if mirrorless system cameras would actually be in the market if all manufacturer's played it safe? Till today, 2 years after m4/3 was announced, industry leaders are still working to a response to the "solution looking for a problem" that has blossomed into m4/3s.

Pretty surprising that someone as reputable as dpreview said something so narrow minded.

Do u really believe what that Oly exec said? From what i see, CCD live view has existed for the longest time in video cams, both consumer & pro & 3CCDs variant. Its juz plain PR marketing talk to sell, thats all. Very much like "The iPad is the most important thing i've ever created in my life" Whats the innovation behind an upsize iPhone or iPod touch? More content doesn't fall into that category.

But dun misunderstand what i'm saying. The implementation of Live View from video cams to still cam is a great feature & an important one, that i feel is the future. Nothing bashing there, juz that those marketing talks irks me.:sweat: I'm pretty damn sure the sensor switch is due to something else, probably company politics, nothing to do with CCD not handling LV well. Technology is neutral, its the people behind thats always stirring sh!t.

i noticed e-30 body is now selling for only 754usd at amazon. also a few sold at BNS for less than 1k. does anybody know how much the retail goes now? was there a price drop locally?

43rumors said they are quite sure an E-3/E-30 replacement will come sometime between june-sept. could this be the reason?

Cud be the replacement killer coming or Oly thinks that with the success of m43, lowering the higher end 43 models might entice more m43 & lower end 43 users to adopt, thus fulfilling the lack of performance from lower end models. Works both ways i guess :)

Is there going to be a new thread for users' wet dream of whats to come with the coming new E-pro?

I just called Alan Photo. They quoted SGD1400 with GST. Their website says the 14-54 Kit is SGD1999. If you sell the lense for say SGD700, you can get the body for 1300. That's USD978. Hmm... Might be worth buying from B&H afterall.

Does anyone know if Oly Spore would honour the warranty?

I believe that all Olympus cameras and lens and flash comes with Internation worldwide warranty. so should not be a problem.

the only thing Olympus try to do that encourage buying in Singapore is they give additional 3 more mths of warranty, (total is 15mths)

Hope that I'm not giving u the wrong info.

Thanks for the reply. I'll check with them.

I bought the E-30 over the E-3 as I found that it has better noise handling (noisier, yes, but at least no banding issues)...

After more than a year with the E-30, here's what I can say about it...
1) I wish it had 100% viewfinder
2) I wish it was weatherproof

I'm curious about the weatherproof wish. Do you often take photographs in the rain ? I've a E1 and there are some occasions I've taken pics in a light drizzle, but very, very seldom. In fact, I can do without it. I did it just because I wanted to try out the weather proof seals on the E1, not because I had to.

I only talk to the girls ... :)
