Any DIMAGE 7 / 7i / 7hi users with Remote Shuttle Release Cable?

I'm trying to DIY one but can't find any switch to do the job,
now still have 3 wires hanging around and it's messy..
the cable works on my Esplanet firework shots,
but.. does anyone come across any switch to go with it?

I did make one for my D7. Unfortunately it does require 2 switches. I used one rocker switch (for the focusing) and a pushbutton for the shutter release. So I need only one hand to operate it.

How much is the original cable ? The short one ? sometimes ... DIY can short the terminals ...

Though it is much cheaper to DIY ... but firstly it may be UGLY. Secondly, you may short the other terminals that could damage the camera. It will "Upgrade" the Dimage7i to a DAMAGE 7i.

Can buy in Singapore a not ?

But I think there are 2 models ... 1 with long cable the other with a short one. BTW, I do not own a 7Hi yet ... hoping to ... but must try to sell off my Oly C-700 First ... got lobang a not ?

Hee hee .. but I think the 7Hi is really a good camera and will be my next upgrade

I modified my Canon T series cable release - it is electric with the 'double action' switch, so I cut the cable in two and fitted 3.5mm stereo audio jacks so I could reconnect the orginal Canon end (so I can still use it on my T70 SLR). I then made up a Minolta end. I also made up an 'extension lead' with 3.5mm audio connectors so I can have both a short release and a long one.

Works well, and even has a handy 'lock down' feature for long exposures.

So another option for the switch may be to find a 2nd hand electric cable release for another camera and fit a new connector.

Just be careful, I think many modern camera cable releases are not passive switches like the Minolta and Canon T types, but are some sort of serial communications link. If a camera series has a cable release option that has other controls on it, that would be a dead give away that its a 'smart' cable and not simple switches, even if the cheapest version only has a focus/shutter switch.

Is the connector for the remote to the camera the same shape as for dynax5? small rectangular, 3 pin with a small slot? if so, anyone managed to DIY one tat fits snugly? I made one for my dynax 5 but doesn't fit very snugly.

yes, it is the same. RC-1000s and RC-1000L. S = short , L= Long.

I use the CD-rom audio cable..

some ppl do mold it with wax :dunno:

sad to say, no!
it can't fit nicely.. may fall off easily..
but as it's free (it come with my CDR-drive that I don't play Audio CD on ).. I still can bare that..

actually all liquid material use to mold the plug is not recomended,
as it may leak into the cam & short some circuit..
but that's the best way to get a socket that fit nicely into it..
after that you will still facing another big problem.. how to make out the connection???

some ppl do use SCSI cable..
I don't have one.. so can't comment..

my plug was made using acrylic, carefully drilled 3 holes, then cut to form required plug shape. but prob is I can't think of a good way to have a snug electrical conducting plug to fill the 3 holes to contact the camera's 3 pins. I just stuffed wires in it. so only holds a little bit but easy to come out.
