any clues about the artifact ?

borrowed friend's M9 yesterday..as it was past 12midnight only tried a few shots but found artifact not seen on the borrowed M8.2
any idea from experts in this forum ??

i open the shutter and see the sensor on 8.2 shiny and smooth, the m9 sensor got funny pattern and a faint 3mm vertical line from the top , i google and heard about spontaneous crack sensor issue..hope it's not that...will ask my friend bring back to svc..

Fungus that's exactly the same thickness everywhere on the sensor??? Now that's clever fungus!

Looks more like some kind of sensor or low pass filter degradation to me. Either way, not good.

I played around with one of the OP's images and got this. Too even to be fungus but a bit out of focus outside the DOF to be the sensor so I'm guessing the low pass filter is the problem.

Edit: my bad for not realizing the M9 doesn't have an AA filter. Perhaps the UV/IR filter then..

I can't think of any interference effect from the low pass filter that can give something like this... if it were, it'd be something in waves rather than some bacteria like thing.

If it's degradation, well, it's still going to cost as much as fixing fungus on some level.

I was thinking it might be degradation in the glue that holds the layers of the low pass filter together, but just a guess. Whatever it is, I agree it's gonna cost about the same to fix. I'm surprised the M9's owner hasn't noticed it!!!

Yeah... there's no AA filter, but looks like whatever is used to cement the IR/UV filter is ****ed.

was looking it on my phone, could only see the one on the bottom.

So I was told..at svc centre they will replace sensor FOC but prob complete in nov..when asked why sensor lidat..was told they not sure and suggested something about? having subjecting the camera mount to abnormal extreme force which is like no way man..everyone handles their M like a baby..my friend got x1..x2..m8..m9..and recently m240..and a 3yr old sensor can be foc replaced could mean a known issue they didnt want to outright admit..anyway glad its foc nevertheless

In other news, my own M9 sensor has a stain that apparently cannot be cleaned and will thus be replaced. I have no kriffing idea where the stain came from, but it is utterly bizarre that the stain can't be cleaned.

This is a known issue for certain batches of M9 in the sensor suffering cracks and it has happens to my friend's camera as well. The service center did replace it FOC even after it was passed the warranty. The problem is the downtime wait to get the sensor fixed.
