Hi, i just got the above UW housing and IXUS500. could anyone pls help!! b4 i use the uw housing do i need to put any gel to protect the "O"ring and also do i need to put any silicone gel to prevent fogging in the housing? :dunno:

cheers

i dun think silicone gel prevents fogging in the housing.. silica gel does :)

you should buy anti fog solution, just one drop on the inside of the lens port will do, give it a light rub, and wipe it off with lens tissue.. any shop that sells swimming apparel and accessories will carry it.

try to also avoid putting your housing in strong airconditioned room esp throughout the night...

just something that i have been doing ... these advice come from someone whose camera fogged up on her everyday raining lembeh trip two months ago ..

but the above should work for normal circumstances :sweatsm:

Do check your O-ring for dirt, dust, crack and other abnormalities. Always grease your O-ring lightly before putting back to the groove and closing the housing. And ALWAYS check that O-ring is sitting nicely after closing. I am speaking from painful experience.

Also since you are first time using the housing, bring down t empty housing to test for leak (or lack of) before putting the camera inside. Empty housing is more bouyant, so you might want to tie some weight or put into your pocket (if the housing is small).

Read the instruction of your housing which should provide you with the info.

besides checking the O-ring, make sure u check the groove on the housing where the O-ring sits for any hair, dirt or crack AND not forgetting the other side of the casing where it closes over the O-ring...
