Hi,

You mean Nikon D70 is not covered under international warranty?
If buy in M'sia, I must goto M'sia to service??

THX

(I know that Olympus now give international warranty to camera)

yes, u are right. D70 in Malaysia (not limited to D70 KL) is cheaper than Singapore.

Due to the fact that

1) SGD has strengthened where RM is pegged. Current SGD/MYR is 2.245
D70 is priced around RM4400 (or SGD1960)

2) Malaysia government is kind enough and there is no GST of 5%.

There will be a camera equipment fair in JB coming week.

But, if u need service, u have to either
1) go to JB @ the shop will (that u buy from) send to Nikon Service Center in KL
2) or u go to Nikon Service Center in KL

No, digital bodies are only warrantied by the countries that bring them in. Grey/import sets are not warrantied by Nikon Singapore. Normal charges will apply for such items.

maybe before gst or without warranty. or "have to" buy together with other items like spare memory cards or some expensive camera bags. I've encountered similar situations as mentioned above from one of the shops in Lucky Plaza last year! just have to be careful and ask precisely like price after gst? with local warranty? must buy with other items? etc...
anyway, i got my D70+kit for 2000(after gst), trade in the kit lens for 430 to buy the 24-120VR.

hi rtbh.. u mean that shop which u bought from was willing to do a trade-in wif ur kit lens? Any idea abt other shops that do likewise??

sorry not sure about other shop or even the shop that I went usually do likewise. It's because happened that on that day the D70 stocks that came all came with kit lens, and I told the guy I did'nt want the kit lens. Initially was told to wait for the next batch of D70 that come without kit lens. But I told him I can't wait as I need the camera for that weekend. After some persuasions and maybe since I'm a regular there, he finally agreed a trade in for me. Might be a unique case for me then.

Well, you can easily sell the kit lens for $450-475. Even $500 if you find some who are willing to pay coz they didn't do homework. :) Ever saw people getting 2nd hand CF cards which are sold higher than 1st hand prices. ;p :bsmilie:

agreed. it's just that I don't prefer to pay for D70+kit plus another 900+ for the VR lens at one go on that day, and later take the trouble to advertise to sell off the kit lens. and since the trade in price of 430 is within my target (as in even if I advertise), that's why I prefer the trade in.

oh.. u mean the next batch or the future batches of D70 doesn't comes with the kit lens anymore? so wouldn't the kit lens be kinda like while stock last??

or are u referring to selling of D70 body only?

Hi rtbh,
the VR lens is 24-120mm, wouldn't the wide side be abit narrow ? Cos 24mm it will become a 36mm after converting to the 1.5x factor.......
Will the aperture too reduced by the a factor of 1.5x, thanks.
woofair2004

aperture will not be reduced.

What the sales person meant was to ask me to wait for batch of D70 that comes without the kit lens, since I told him I didn't want the lens. I presume D70 might come as body only in future.

36mm effective is light wide-angle what. It's not very narrow. Maybe a bit difficult to squeeze in mountains and grp photos in wedding banquet but lets leave those duties for true wide angles. :)

D70 & 18-70DX are sold in the following ways:

D70 Body only
18-70DX lens only (Unlike some *F-S lens that cannot be used on other bodies)
D70 + 18-70DX Kit (Actually Kit here refers to the combo, and NOT the lens being a LOW quality lens, it's an AF-S, IF-ED lens)

The lens + body option was provided to let amatuers & beginners to kick off photography with a wide to mid tele range lens. Not to mention cheaper for kickstarters.

The AF-S 24-120VR is about 36-180 view after FLM. It's not exactly narrow, just what you would get when looking through a FF film body, it's good for the range and a general purpose lens, if you are looking at a real good WA for a DSLR, can consider the AF-S 12-24DX, it can be used for wedding table shots, scenary (yes yes, portraits too, now that I've said it, Watcher, GET OFF MY BACK! ). But 36 can do scenary too.

Depends on your needs and usages before deciding. :)

It like to confirm that the AFS 18-70mm DX will work with only Nikon DSLRs. Any got the manual to verify?

r/Colin

DX lenses were created to capture the image as if the FLM has already been applied, DX is the term for the Nikon DSLR's sensor, which is 1.5 times smaller than the 35mm format.

Since DX is already 1.5FLM, the lenses naturally will be unable to be used on the film cameras (theorotically speaking).

I understand the logic, but has anyone try any DX lens on a film Nikon SLRs.
