Any better battery for Sony Nex?

$50-$60 for BNIB unopened FW50 is a fair price buddy. That's 50% off the price you can get from Funan.

Grab if you need.

i fully agree with you. at that kind of prices, i'll definitely get original.

Output voltage is only part of the equation.

1. Material used, are they really as listed in the spec list?
2. Cost is so much lower, so how can the cost of same material be so much different?
3. Production... are you sure those company have R&D to ensure the Battery to operate to the spec of the Manufacturer?
4. Capacity.... some battery are so much higher capacity... but how is the discharge?
5. Do you measure the output voltage and that there's no surge? Is it stable throughout all operating temperature?

I have 400D 3rd party cos I cannot buy original cos not in production, and the battery charges does not hold... so talking about QC...

I use a sony video cam after using with third party camera, start to functioning weirdly, and we got a high capacity battery, but after using with it, the function is weird, and brought in for servicing.

You never heard of exploding batteries in handphone? For Apple, even original batt can have such incident, so not to mention 3rd party. Oh... I think they used 3rd party charger... but that screwed up the battery, and phone circuit get short circuit...

Battery is the source of power for the Camera. It is simple, but one of the most important. It is not as simple as some people think it is. What is happening in a battery?

A cycle of process is happening, in which, Chemical process take place, and corrosion happens to produce electrical energy. Battery also leak, and the leakage can damaged the electrical component.

If I have money to buy a $2000 camera, I will budget $100 for extra battery. Not worth to risk damages to the camera.

I don't understand your point here...OP was asking is there a better battery or alternative to the OEM battery. Everyone and his cat will know that the OEM products are the safest because you pay a premium for the peace of mind, but are they the best? Maybe yes, but probably not. I explained above but then you twist the subject to talk about the unknown. Of course if you are unsure, you should not buy/use any third party parts, but if you know what you are going/getting, you can often get a better performing parts at a much more attractive rates from third party source...just ask anyone who are involved in car mods, or ask yourself the logic of why you buy a Sigma or any third party brand of lens to use with your camera.

You're talking about the R&D involved in the battery as if Sony themselves are heavily involved in this. No, Sony don't manufacture battery, in fact even their common NiMh rechargeable AA are sourced from Sanyo (now bought over by Panasonic) and rebranded. They merely present a spec and costing to their contract manufacturer and run some test of these batteries before slapping their logo on it. I'm sure many 3rd party battery brands are sourced from the same few manufacturers in China and they have much smarter guy in-house than most of us consumer to know how to deliver to the specs, because this is not rocket science. The problem comes when you have a few unscrupulous sellers who make wild claims about their batteries. Sony OEM battery is rated at 1080mAh, and if someone comes in and claim theirs to be 2500mAh with the same form factor and you fell for their b*llcrap, then you deserved to be conned. Just like buying a $25 LV handbag...you know the pain is coming.

To answer the OP, the bottomline is, buying original is often the safest route...but just keep in mind that just because they are slapped with a Sony logo, they "might" not be the best or give you the most value out there. A little background understanding will go a long way to help you decide which one you should spend your money on. If you're just buying just one additional backup battery, I suggest you spend the extra $$$ and go for the original. If you're a kiasu like me and/or don't charge your battery daily hence you need multiple batteries just for the "in case" situation, then it's worth some research before buying any 3rd party parts. I have 3 each of Sony original and the same equal amount of 3rd party batt for both my RX1 and A7R and switch them around, so far I cannot tell any difference in their performance...maybe time will tell. More importantly however, you should also invest in a good charger, be it OEM or 3rd party ones.

I was responding to the risk of third party batteries that you asked me for it.. in case you forgotten...

How do you reckon a 3rd party battery can damage a camera? If the output voltage is correct (which is not difficult to get right), a battery is just a simple device that should in theory and practical, not damage any electrical devices, unless you are a marketeer who wants your customers to purchase your over-priced piece of accessory, hence spreading half-truth, fears and rumours etc.

When I talking about third party, it is NON-SONY Brand... I think most bro and sis know that we do not talk about Sony battery made by Sanyo for Sony as Third Party. Maybe Sony do not have R&D in battery, and it is out sourced and they are make for Sony by Sanyo.

Do not know why there's a need for you to TWIST things when I wrote pretty straight forward. Not sure what you mean by "what is my point" when I think most here get my point. I am just highlighting the risk involved in buying and using 3rd party.

Sony = OEM

Photixx, etc = 3rd party.

Just find it wired at times, because Battery have highest risk of short circuiting any electronics, but some people who have money to buy tend to go for cheaper battery and take the risk. That seems not so smart to me....

FYI... that is why I am advocating people to buy original......

Good luck to you. A good 3rd party charger??

Just because I disagree with you, you do not need to get so upset. You can buy whatever you like with your money. I am just advising all here, and if you do not like it, you can put me on the ignore list.

Just like I decide how I spend how my money, and you have no bloody right to Scorn me for my decision, cos I am using my money and not yours whether I want to buy a A7 or not...

Thank you.

personally i prefer to buy 3rd party batteries that DON'T say they are Sony OEM..because most of the time they are fakes. I'd rather buy 3rd party brands that show their brand..At least i know they have nothing to hide.
I also only use 3rd party batts as standby batts, in case i need...so they get used very seldom.
There's one brand that i always buy from my Canon 5d3 to my EOS M to my NEX6 and now A7r...it's the same 3rd party brand battery/charger i buy from ebay and so many years on, their batteries still work and have not given me any issues..BUT like i said, its because i seldom use them..they're for standby only.

Ya... branded 3rd party can be considered but not fakes...some fake copy looks and packaging exactly the same but just dont hold charge
