Any 18-200mm option for Canon?

Hmmm Sigma OS weight is heavier than tamron VC Lens.. Maybe will wait for tamron to launch its VC Lens. haha... oh ya...tamron VC len focus length is 28-300mm, good for zoom but landscape got a problem....I think Sigma is a better choice..

the 28-300 is targetted at FF/1.3x crop users, more so than APS-C users.

And it's focal length, not focus length.

There is, of course, the Canon USM 28 - 200mm f3.5 - 5.6 lens.

Travelling? How about a 17-55mm or 17-85mm with the 70-300mm DO IS. The 70-300mm DO IS is very compact and useful for travelling. You might want to read a review of the EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 DO IS USM here. Both compact lenses can be lighter than the monster EF 28-300mm f3.5-5.6L IS USM here.

opss sorry focal length, thanks for the correction..hehe

I tried 18-200 Sigma lens before; the one without the OS.

Yes, it did crank up at some of the shots, but I had printed out A4 size and I would say the results is acceptable.

I had sold it off last year, as I was planning to switch to the OS version but it was a long wait and I bought the 17-70mm f2.8-4.5 then.

Frankly, I do miss the 18-200 when I go travelling, it's great to have one which helps to capture many moments.

If you have you own sweet time to stake out at a spot to wait for the perfect moment, yes, go get a better lens and take the whole day to change the lens.

But unfortunately, I don't have. Hence I still prefer to get another SuperZoom - btw, Sigma had announced one with HSM version. 18-200 DC HSM OS. Check it up.

sigma 18-200 OS HSM is nikon mount...

Just took a shot of an eagle with my second-hand Sigma 18-200 OS at Langkawi.

Not too happy with the shot BUT probably think its cos of the ISO. Didn't have time to adjust cos sitting on boat with 11 mth baby strapped to my chest.:nono:

350D. 200 mm. 1/4000. F7.1. OS on.

Hi all,
New here, but been reading but not posting.

Like the idea of a superzoom but also understand the problems with them. Since our Canon are 1.6x we just have to get a zoom around 24-100mm would be good enough for most of the shots. I too have researched Sigma 18-200 OS but know that it has limitations even at max fstop, at ard 200mm, it still does not do a good job at bluring the backgnd. Also the max fstop is not very bright. Most of the reviews give it only ok but not a lens to have. Even Nikon owners stay away from 18-200mm why do you think there's so many of them in B&S FS.

Have a look at the new 17-70mm f2.8-4.5 DC Macro HSM at this moment its only Nikon mount. Though f2.8 is only from 17-20mm, the reviews give it better scores even comparing to Nikon 17-70mm in some areas.

Hope to see Sigma 17-70mm for Canon soon.

Happy hunting.

any news on the HSM for Canon mount?

The HSM is only made in Nikon mount so you can mount this lens on a D40 and use it with AF. I doubt there are any plans to release a Canon (or any other) mount of this lens with HSM.

Are you sure the reason for 18-200s in the B&S are because Nikonians stay away from that lens? There are so many Nikon users who go to Nikon solely for that lens.

Nikon has no 17-70mm lens BTW, and as I said above, I doubt Sigma is going to release HSM for these lenses in any other mount, other than Nikon; the reason is so that these lenses can be used on the D40 and D40x.

I am canon user....quite gian to go over to Nikon becoz of their 18-200 VR.

Wish Canon will have something like 18-200mm. Contrary to what most think, I guess all these super zooms aren't as bad as they sound. Something like 17-150mm f/3.5-5.6 will be good too.

I'm really gearing at kit lenses now. But Canon's standard zoom lenses are not optimal for 1.6x crop sensors in that the zoom range is too short.

I've seen my friend's Nikon 18-200VR quality and it's impressive. You'd be a scientist looking under the microscope all the time to query over the resolution, etc.

Seriously, how many of us can figure correctly most of the time Picture A is taken with an L lens while Picture B is wih a super zoom?
