Another newbie learning to take food photos

Leng Huat Fishball Noodle @ #02-89 Taman Jurong Market & Cooked Food Centre

DSC02982.jpg

Mee Pok was perfectly al dente, coated with tasty, tangy chilli sauce. Fishballs were big and meaty. This stall used to be really popular at the old 'no. 1 market' at Taman Jurong, but after it was demolished, shifted to this multi-storey building, and lost quite a bit of their customers. The auntie told me that the taxi drivers used to stop by at the roadside to patronise them, but @ this building, they couldnt do so, so stopped coming..

Very nice sweet sauce and chilli sauce combo... the tofu and fried stuff by themselves were tasty too !

Wanton Mee @ Wah Kee Noodles @ 01-125 Amoy Food Centre

DSC00125.jpg

Read that this stall was formerly Guang Dong Wanton Mee from Maxwell Food Centre. First, I must say, it was very good, I enjoyed it. BUT I belong to the school that an excellent wanton mee must have excellent noodles, and its noodles, to me, were only so so, So how is it good ?

DSC00135.jpg

well, it's the absolutely sinfully fatty and perfectly caramelized Char Siew and the tasty wantons that made it come good...  and you can add $1 to get 3 huge prawn dumplings which were crunchy and succulent.

DSC00150.jpg

and since the wanton mee was so good, I went on another day and tried their Beef Brisket Noodles, which I heard was better:

the beef texture is a little tough, but the gravy.. whoa.. absolutely delectable... heard that they cook the gravy with Nam Yue or fermented beancurd...

this stall is definitely worth a visit !

Alkaff Mansion Ristorante at 10, Telok Blangah Green

finally managed to make my way down to this refurbished grand old building...

DSC00617.jpg

It's now an Italian restaurant, helmed by a chef who was formerly from Senso and Palio. The place is beautifully refurbished, with old tiles and new steel-and-glass wine storage in the middle.

DSC00604.jpg

so how did the food measure up? First, the bread :

DSC00545.jpg

breadsticks were crispy, focaccia underneath was served warm. off to a good start.

DSC00555.jpg

Wife selected the set lunch and chose the foie gras. It was nice, but not something extraordinary, unlike....

DSC00558.jpg

Smoked Sturgeon with avocado and crab served with citrus fruit emulsion

an absolutely beautiful appetizer .. a layer of smoked fish provided the base, followed by crabmeat, avocado paste, and topped by fish roe, and a pretty flower... the taste was as good as the presentation. fantastic !

DSC00575.jpg

Angelhair Vongole

plenty of juicy clams in al dente Capellini in white wine sauce. very good, but the next star was:

DSC00588.jpg

Pappardelle with Wild Boar Ragout

This is another signature dish... Marinated for 7 days in red wine, the wild boar ragout was absolutely divine.. with the al dente pasta, and enhanced by the sheet of aged cheese, which it was served wrapped in.. Superb !

meal ended with a lava cake which was pretty normal:

DSC00599.jpg

but I think I have seen and tasted enough to want to come back again.

all the YTF items were delicious, esp the ngoh hiang and the meatballs... I even saw aunties coming and filling their bowls with like 20 items to queue up patiently, and after that, tell the stallholder to just cook and put in plastic bag, then they just takeaway the whole bag of YTF items home !

Lee Kheong Roasted Delicacy @ 02-15 Hong Lim Food Centre

This stall was originally from People's Park Food Centre.. it moved across the busy Cross Street junction and is now at Hong Lim...

DSC09978.jpg

First, the Sio Bak ... crispy, savoury, yet not very fatty, it's really good !

DSC00003.jpg

The Char Siew was perfectly caramelized ... excellent stuff, except that I wished that they can come in bigger pieces :p

to those who want to find it, it's next to Tai Hwa Bak Chor Mee and opposite Outram Park Char Kway Teow ... look for the blue sign !

2 prawn noodles in PSA Tanjong Pagar Complex @ 7, Keppel Road...

Liang Seah Street Prawn Mee @ #01-03 /04 Orchid Coffeeshop

DSC07812.jpg

prawns were served shelled, but halved. Quite fresh, though some may find it quite troublesome to have to peel. Chilli was tangy, and yes, they serve all kinds of noodles, including mee kia, which I find so-so, and it came swimming in quite a bit of soup, so not really dry (I like my noodles dry and oily). Ribs were tender, and cooked well, as they fell of the bones and cartilage. The soup was excellent, really tasty. Above cost me $4.50.

Amoy St Boon Kee Prawn Noodle @ #01-01/02, HLY Eating House

DSC09924.jpg

The dry version came swimming in a thick layer of ketchup-based chilli sauce, something really different from the normal dry prawn noodles. Extra marks for being unique, and in a pleasant way, as it tasted pretty good actually. The soup was also quite intense and slurpilicious.

DSC09936.jpg

Prawns were deshelled, which made it much easier to eat. Helps that they were fresh too !

DSC09946.jpg

Ribs look tender, but they were actually a little tougher than the Liang Seah one.

DSC09942.jpg

Last but not least, the $4 version I ordered came with 'powder' intestines. Went very nicely with the noodles.

Your prawn mee made me hungry :bsmilie:

Yu Cuisine @ Marina Bay Sands

Lotus Soup.. sweet and nicely done...

DSC09696.jpg

BBQ platter of three meats...charred char siew, roast pork and roast duck...all v good too

DSC096912.jpg

my fav of the day was the smoked soya sauce chicken... the smokiness and the soya sauce combined to produce an extraordinary taste..lovely stuff..

DSC09697.jpg

in btw, we had a nice braised tofu with spinach

DSC097002.jpg

last but not least, was the very interesting Kailan cooked in two ways...standard kailan stalks with deep fried kailan leaves.. v interesting... almost everyone thought the latter was seaweed.
