Saw the original Leica Snob from leicagoodies website that claims to give better grip on your thumb, less stress on the film advance lever :

My DIY thought : get a wooden or plastic bead (cost <S$0.50), size about 2cm diameter, use a file to flatten one side, apply double side type & indeed it gives a better grip on the thumb and control when firing the shutter

From the photo, it looks like it is blocking the film advance winding, but physically it is not. You may like to experience with the different height of the bead to suit your personnel touch
Any user who can hunt for the rubber sphere, just like the leciagoodies one, kindly let us know. I got the bead from a shop in People's Park Centre, selling knitting stuff. I think in Cantonese, its call "Golden Dragon", location is facing the overhead bridge to Chinatown Point.
