What do you want me to say? MERRY CHRISTMAS?

Someone who comments about amputated arms actually has such photos in his collection:

Chop right at the joint. Well done! Let's welcome a female member to fantastic four. She's Ms Elastic Woman thanks to the photographer. So dun talk to me about cropping.

Actually, the cropping doesn't really matter in these photos. I'm quite sick of the misleading theory of cropping in CS. Who's the idiot who came up with it? The one who started it is a damn novice.

What you've learnt about cropping is ALL wrong. There's theory about cropping, but yours is definitely incomplete. Don't mislead others with your little knowledge please. It really ruins photography for the newer members. The one who taught you or started it in CS should do some reflection. Period.

Well strong words. Words sufficient to start wars.

However since it's Christmas, let's not.

Then, btw, I hate amputation. I detest amputation. Amputation to me is a fata flaw.

However how to crop correctly? Since you have such strong feelings, and think all here in CS are idiots, care to enlight us?

Thanks in advance from all of us from CS for your wisdom in cropping and amputation.

I used a 30D with the 24-70mm f/2.8 for pics 2, 4, and 5; the 70-200mm f/2.8 IS was used for pics 1 and 3.

For pic 2, you can shoot with the 70-200 across the street. I know exactly where and I shoot there all the time.

I'll not waste time explaining to you DP as you're definitely not ready to learn. Your mind is fixed in a world where there's no cropping, so just leave it as that. You continue taking photos with no messy hair and no cropping. I hope you're not the one who started this misleading theory though. As it tells me how much you know about photography and I hope all the TFCDs and newbie will not learn from your wierd obsession.

For others, I just want to say that cropping is ok in many circumstances. Even chopping of fingers is ok if the intention is right, but I'll not dwell into that. Cropping is not done just becos the editor say so - I've seen deYonker's fraud post. However, don't use commercial works/posters as example to rebuke these anti-amputation jokers as they think its cropped so only becos the editor wants it that way due to space contraint. This is only partly correct. Let me give you a clue here - have you ever thought why the editors are willing to sacrifice limbs? For now, the rest of you please read and find out more about cropping and ignore the imbecile and his/her followers who teaches wrong theory on cropping. Look at famous photographers' work also to make a judgement for yourselves.

My point here is simple. Photographers, if you think that your cropping is done for a reason and people like DP says otherwise, please point out to him. I know that there are many more experienced photographers here will know better. We cannot shut people's trap, but we can help other new photographers - Don't stifle their learning and creativity. Have fun finding out why/when cropping is ok! Merry Christmas

I don't think all here in CS are idiots. I'm impressed by those who discovered DeYonkers fraud. Only the person who started the theory is an idiot. Those who follows blindly are close to being one too. Don't mislead the rest by creating a mistake I've not commited to diverge attention - something which guilty people are good at as its their only way out.

It's a beautiful Christmas Day! No rain so far, with a nice cool breeze.

All kind suggestions have been taken into consideration for my future work, but for now, appreciate if we can move on and leave the cropping discussions perhaps for another thread.

Thanks all!

nice photos you got there...

thumb up for you...
:D

Hi, I am another one of those that find the cropping in the pics here abit too tight for my liking.
I do understand the need for cropping at times, but in most of the pics here it make the model looks disjointed.

What a nice weekend! I had a good rest, simple meals, nice wines, looked at the many, many negatives I have, and made some prints, They are drying now and hopefully I can show them later.

Now coming back to cropping, or lack of cropping. I do not have a theory. Or if I do, it is this. Just what pleases my eyes. How one sees and criticises others' works is a reflection of what one is.

I am a big fan of looking and learning from famous photographers. My signature reads "only fools.. think that God sings songs to them only - quoting from Keith Carter, photographer and professor of arts at Lamar University".

However, A, if you encourage others to look at the works of famous photographers, you will join the ranks of "insecure" people like me, who have no opinion of ourselves.

I like Carter's words. And I like his wisdom. He words have universal application. Including CS. I am glad to join the ranks of the insecure.

Why do you need other to point out to me things that you think is wrong? What, you do not have any backbone to shpport your own opinion? Maybe you really do not have any opinion of your own.

Cropping is definately fine. Amputation is define not ok. The fine line is to do the former, not he later.

There is definately a fine line there .... but maybe the line is too fine?
As for the above pics, i am ok with the crops........ merry xmas!

I think we need to define what's 'cropping' and what's 'amputation'? There may not be wrong but improper cropping or amputation will make them look ugly......

In natural sense, no one would want to see their photos with a palm and no fingers or only left with 2 fingers or feet with no toes.

It is very tiresome to see that one keeps hitting below the belt. To improve, we need to stick to the main issue and tackle them, then move on.

History are for historians; Future may never comes..... What we have today, we are today....

Thanks guys, for your views thus far. I will certainly work on my sketching and framing.

Ok, I think we've heard enough of cropping/amputation gothika theories for one thread, so I'm bringing this thread to a close.

Until next shoot, wishing all a Happy New Year! :D
