Android users unite!

Just bought another two apps off the market recently.

1) App Protector
Locking up my email and some other data clients like FB and ebuddy with an access password.

2) Advanced Ruler Pro. One not too expensive but nifty program, just bought it a few mins ago :bsmilie: Measures height / distance etc. Neat!

Simulating T-mobile USA ;)

Any idea what widget is this that gives a similar look as the HTC sense clock on a non HTC phone (at the top half of the phone's screen)?

Beautiful widgets will be pretty close, but need to pay a small fee. more than a hundred skins to choose as well, and some are close to the one you mentioned

*the widget can be moved up and down

Want to produce apps but don't know how? Have no fear! App Inventor is here!
http://appinventor.googlelabs.com/about/

Basically, drag and drop app creation. You'll need to fill in a form to request the program but why not? Upside, we're going to see a lot more apps on the market, downside is that we're going to see a million and one clones of a particular app

Let me add another android app that i just installed - Market Enabler. Version 3.0.8 works for Froyo :)

Now the interesting paid applications appear
( haven bought anything yet though )

Here is a screen cap of Market Enabler, there are some versions that works with rooted phones. It enables to simulate various network providers. Bought quite a few nice aps online, pay via google checkout.

Thanks, will definitely try them out. Btw, how do you browse through and buy paid apps from Market? I can only see the free apps on my phone, and after some searching, it seems that Singapore is not yet one of the countries able to purchase apps from Market.

Oh ok, missed your posts above. So it was Market Enabler you're using that allows you to see the paid apps in Market.

SlideME is another ok marketplace.

Yup ziploc, using Market Enabler.

Here is Market Enabler in action, "faking" US T-Mobile network.
They shld seriously just open up the entire marketplace in the first place.

That's the one thing I cannot understand about Google..why in the world are they restricting paid apps to regions?

Because they don't have a license to sell software in SG yet maybe? It also took Apple ages before they opened up the iTunes store here.

I try both beautiful widget and weather widget, only the latter has exactly what you want. I'm running it on my nexus one.

But Market Enabler can only be installed on Rooted Android phones.

I installed, but it shows error. So sad.

Unfortunately, that is the case for Market Enabler. The other option that I've seen is to purchase a US sim card and but use WIFI to connect to the market.

But as it stands now, other than a few games and apps. You aren't really missing out all that much on paid apps as the free ones are already pretty good.

That is one of the few things I don't like about Galaxy S, or the way Samsung had done to Android phones. Since Nexus One came out before Galaxy S and they should use Nexus One as the reference hardware for Android.

However, if you are using Swype, read the following link to know how to get to the "special menu" on moving the cursor.

http://www.androidpolice.com/2010/07/02/tip-how-to-get-arrowcursor-keys-on-the-swype-keyboard/

I don't use the Samsung IME, so I am not sure about it.

Thanks for the tip....

Another market software you can use is Appbrain. You can download from market place. You can also go to appbrain website from PC and choose the appl to download. The appbrain from your phone will sync and download accordingly. You are not restricted to choose what appl to download using your phone.

Highly recommend Appbrain. Search the market on your PC, select the apps you want to install and sync. The app will automatically go to the market and grab the selected apps for you.

Oh and it allows you to share the apps that you have installed as well.

Trade rules/agreements between countries and taxes perhaps ?

Currently I am using it. Very useful. But still, we cannot buy those Paid apps. So sad:cry:

I am a proud and happy supporter of the Android OS too. Bought the HTC Desire the day it launched in the telcos and has been vey happy with it so far. IMO, it is definitely better than the current iphone 3GS in almost every aspects. Only thing that Android loses out to Apple OS is the games. But its fine for me coz I dun play games on my phone anyway.
