About 2 month, I decided to go to Ethiopia. This turned out to be one of the 'hottest' trip I have ever experienced. I brought along the M240, M8 and A7R with WATE, 21mm Elmarit-Asph, 35mm 'Lux-Asph, 90mm AA, 19mm Elmarit-R, 35-70 VE and the 180mm Apo-Elmarit. The only non-Leica lens was the Zeiss 55 f1.8 FE. Most of the time, I have the 35mm attached to my M240 as the main walkabout lens. But I did use the WATE as well as the 19mm for many of the outdoor shots. Interestingly, about 50% of my shots came from the A7R.
The first few photos are from Danakil Depression. National Geographic called this the 'cruellest place' on Earth. At its lowest point it is about 100m below sea level. When we drove through this region, it reached a temperature of 51 deg C! In the hottest months it could go higher. The a/c in our 4WD vehicles could not cope with this high temperature and worked intermittently. But the Afra people who controlled the salt trade, lived and worked here throughout the year. They cut the slabs of salt and transport them with their camels to the market places.
