Amazon.de stops selling the K5 body alone, but still selling K5 with Kit lens set

So to summarize this very fiery thread:

1) amazon.de withdrawing sales of K5 body might not be linked to issues
2) Stained Sensor: Go to Emjay and let them handle with Pentax Japan. Stains are black areas with a visible halo.
3) AF failure in Tungsten: Bug. Have to wait for a Firmware update.

4) problems are usually discussed during outings...so better to join outings. Or surf PentaxForum. :D

Guys, chill lar. Why so fierce with each other? New year just started leh. Many versus 1...even if the reasons are justified, it's still a group slapdown. Imagine yourself on the receiving end.

To me, if the advice isn't taken, then just let it go and ignore the person from henceforth. We don't always have to respond to each and every post, right?

What I did find interesting, and the reason I asked for this thread to stay open, was that despite this being the only local Pentax forum around, it didn't have any thread related to the 2 main concerns of the K5. The only other thread that touched on one of this concern was also opened by sircam and that degenerated quite quickly and was locked.

IMO, the reasons that some issues were not discussed here is :
1. Smaller user base here (lower cumulation of issues)
2. Not too many whiners. Problem - send in for replace
3. Very few measurebuaters, many real photographers. f8, f11 than >f16 is more common usage and little pixel peeping most of the time.

Now, to leave this thread open serves to whatever agenda the TS has. Make the eye catching title pop up as the most prominent post here, so that others (esp. non knowledgeable newbies) see it (obviously they don't read; just look at the stickies (newbies still ask the same questions) :) )and not consider a Pentax cause they saw a title ("Amazon.de stops selling the K5 body alone, but still selling K5 with Kit lens set").

I'd give TS the benefit of doubt if he could show real photos and prove his point with them.

Hi, sorry to OT but how do i test for sensor stains?

Yes... Pentax Japan does owe us an explanation + rectification... that's how I look at it. The sooner they did this, the better for all of us who are affected by the misfocus issue. I am also covered by warranty, you know... but what is the use when the local service center says I should wait :dunno: ?!?!?! When I ask for how long approximately... they shrug their shoulders. Can't really blame them, you know. I know its not their fault that I own a K5 with the misfocus issue... just as I know it isn't mine.

Funny... Why is the explanation from Pentax so important? Meanwhile just bear with it and continue taking photos with your K-5 and wait for the firmware update.

Yay here's the official statement from Pentax Germany

According to a statement from Pentax Product Management, Pentax K-5 had a production problem within a specific serial number range. The problem is due to residues of a volatile material that sits between sensor surface and filter glass and which did not vanish/dissolve/disperse (don´t know the right word here. sorry ) completely. This problem is visible as string of pearls.
Cameras with a production date up to calendar week 49 are affected. Then Pentax became aware of this problem and shortly stopped the sale for a comprehensive investigation. During this time there was a delivery bottleneck and a waiting period.

Pentax solved the problem and cameras shipped from calendar week 50 2010 are free from the string of pearls symptom.

Customers with affected cameras can contact Pentax for a direct exchange of their cameras. Waiting times can occour due to short-term high demand and shortage of replecement cameras.

Now since the Stains problem they are rectifying. Now lets wait a little more for the AF failure in Artificial light shall we?

Dun put more oil on a heated debate. Tankiu hor :)

Guys, no need to have ill will between real photographers (esp. Pentaxians)

the other fella... well...... no photos up till now... given his fast response to ppl's remarks to his threads..... IMO :thumbsd: and has no credibility

Why not? There is no perfect camera. The pictures posted here and elsewhere is testament of what the K5 is capable of. :)

With all due respect, I don't like to post my test pics in this forum. Many have done also already in this forum. There is always a bunch in here ready to poke holes in any test and the thread then deteriorates. We aren't all newbies in here... some just don't realize this.

Besides, I know what an out of focus pic looks like, and I'm sure you know what an out of focus pic looks like. I think its silly to debate on the quality of how much out of focus the pic is. Its out of focus enough to irk me... and that is what matters to me... especially when I often shoot a lot in dim artificially lit environments.

Besides, when I took my camera to the local service center, they also agreed that there is definitely a consistent problem and Pentax is investigating this. They suggested the best thing to do is to wait for sometime. I do not need to get any further confirmation from any other source to analyze my K5 any further.

I'm not the one who posted this news first. I simply called to this forum's attention that Amazon.de had stopped selling the K5... I read this elsewhere. I didn't manufacture this news out of nowhere. Many other web sites have posted nearly the same info, but I fail to see any hounding in any related comments on these web sites.

I can post a few links to such web sites in my defense. The way the information has been posted is nearly the same as I posted it. But I'd rather you Google for them instead else I will again be hounded.

Please don't accuse me any more. Its not as if I hate my K5... far from it and keep in mind that I continue to own two Pentax cameras at the moment along with a good number of Pentax lenses... but if there are serious issues with any Pentax camera cropping up all over in other public forums/websites, I'd appreciate it if others took the trouble to point out to the same to the rest of us... that's pretty much what I did here. Not all of us visit each and every Pentax related forum/website out there. That's why we come into this forum and discuss with each other what we know and have heard about recently.

Just because I own two systems, there was no need to be rude and call me 'Rich Boy' and tell me to 'Go Away' and use the other system instead. I owned my Nikon system for quite a long time and like it. I also used to own a Pentax system many years ago during the film days and enjoyed using it. I decided to invest into the Pentax system again after doing some research over Canon as my other APS-C system.

The main reason I started with the K-x was the clean high ISO output because it nearly matched my D90. I had rejected the K7 because of this. When the K5 came out, I felt its slightly better than a K7 with slightly better K-x like output and couldn't resist buying it.

If you guys look at my posting history, you will easily note that besides DSLRs I also own a range of other cameras. I enjoy using other cameras and have continuously been buying and selling cameras across all brands every few months. Its a past time which I have always enjoyed. What's being rich got to do with anything?

Why do some of you even assume that I am a Rich Boy? At least I do not think so! I like spending my money on what I consider value for my needs. Just because I do not like to spending $80 to $100 dollars on a silly plastic battery adapter for my K-r (nearly 10% of the camera's value for a simple piece of plastic) when I already own a K-x (which does not even need such a battery adapter in the first place)... this does not make me any more stupid or smarter than any one else. I'd rather prefer to wait for a cheaper third party alternative. That is my prerogative. No need to blast me for my decision not to buy exorbitantly expensive proprietary accessories and ridicule me.

Lets please keep our discussions civil in the future, okay?

Sir (If I may address you), I salute you ..... Tell them you mean business....

I am always keen to know about any potential issues with the gear I own, but not all that keen on hearing non-stop bitching?

Its like when I go for lunch with my colleague, and he orders a plate of fried rice, and find out its not that good. I would be very appreciative if he tells me that the fried rice sucks and that perhaps I should not buy from that store, but I would be very tired if he goes on to complain that the fried rice sucks everyday for the next 2 weeks?

Of course it would be great if we live in a perfect world where all these K-5 problems did not exist, but we don't. Its also not the end of the world either.

The low light AF issue as well as the inaccurate bounce flash issue sucks and I am affected by both issues, but enough people have already made enough noise and Pentax is already aware of it and are working on a fix. There is simply no point in me bitching about it incessantly until a fix comes out?

The exorbitant prices on Pentax accessories are also a pain in the ass, but its easily solved by going third party?

The real problem was using the word "Perfect Camera" is wrong. Every camera has its flaws. The word Perfect is too much to use la. To the point when imperfection found, people will start going crazy.

I can understand how Sircam is fed up with waiting for the problem to solve. Even in Pentaxforum also people fed-up. But some problem cannot be solve in mere seconds. So we just wait.

Sircam, if u read the threads u wrote. Maybe u can understand why people decided on calling u Rich Boy. Coz of the way u wrote abt ur equipment buying n selling when u dun want it making it look like ur boasting. Even if ur intention was not to show-off but the statement really make it seems u r. Maybe thats the miscommunication.

Also the part when u said u have Nikon gear and u thought of getting a D7k. My intial thinking was if u get that D7K and found a problem, u would do the same thing in Nikon thread. I somehow can sense u sure gonna be shot down again but much more heated than here. Nikon n Canon has more Die-Hard fans than here.

Plus the problems regarding the AF failure and the Quality of Kx,Kr & K5 that u have been stating. A picture can tell a thousand words. just one pic can tell ppl what u really said. Coz ur comprehensive test stated that u took picture of these and found problems. Of course ppl will be asking u the pic as they need to see how the problem is. Same like u viewing a review website of Camera. When u found a website reviewing on a camera u like but there is no picture, diagram shown how can u believe if their test is true? correct? I think thats how the problem is.

I have nothing against u. I know ur intention is to help, but maybe it just went the wrong way and accidentally created friction.

As u can see, some trolls starts to appear here n there. Antibiotic cant kill them nor themselves. I think u better lock this thread.

Okay. Locking thread then.
