Alot of people are ignorant about this wonderful little device, called the DIGITAL ADAPTER.
So decided to post about it here.

The digital adapter homepage

German made by Mattias.
Some American folks have tested it, it works perfectly.
I have also asked the maker and this was his reply:

It will ONLY work for Olympus cameras.
Yes, the TTL is very accurate - even better than the internal flash.

It costs 153 Euros(inclu shipping), that makes it around SIN$350.
Getting a used YS-60 TTL strobe for Nikonos + Sync cord is
around SIN$300-350. Look out on ebay or find it locally.

Ebay has one now(for example) at ard SIN$300 when last checked:
YS-60 TTL for sale

Andrew (local sea&sea) quotes a brand new one at SIN$595, not including sync cord. I believe you can get it in Japan (brand new + shipping) cheaper then getting it here.

Current Advantages:
1)Quite a number of photographers are moving towards digital
or give up diving, so I believe it's not that difficult to get
them 2nd hand.

2)A digital strobe is around $800(eg YS-90 DX).
Ikelite DS-50 around is around that price,
not to mention the super ex DS125
(still need to buy TTL sensor which I find it not worth the $$$) :faint:
A used YS-60 is half of that or much less.

3)The best part, you get full TTL!! :D

4)No need to buy very expensive housings just because you need a
bulkhead to use TTL strobes

5)Also benefits conventional film photographers who already have the
same strobes, they do not need to buy new ones(digital strobes)
when they go digital.

6)Save money when you get your 2nd strobe

-----
If you stick with Oly cameras all the way or for the next few years,
worth the investment.

The digital adapter + used YS-60 + sync cord is = 1 digital strobe (have not included optic cable)

Get the 2nd digital strobe + optic cable, costs another SIN$900.
Get the 2nd used YS-60 + sync cord, ard $500, almost 50% savings!
Which can be used to invest in strobe arms, base plate.....

The digital adapter not only support YS-60 TTL, it also supports:
Sea&Sea YS50/90/120 for Nikon-TTL.

Think about it! ;)
(want to save money, cannot be lazy, do research)

PS: Maker highly recommends getting the YS-60 TTL for Nikon

wow lanxx! have not seen you around on UWCS, but when you do, you impress with info! you have really been doing lots of reading and finding out stuff

this info is really useful esp for people like me ^_^

good work lanxx!

Good Info Lanxx.. Thanks. FYI i am on the verge of getting it. None the less will need to get the expert advice of Lanxx first.

Wonderful stuff. thanks for sharing :)

I think it only provides manual and not auto TTL. Can anyone confirm this.

The main adv it allows is to allow conventional strobes to be used with digital cam as these strobe does not support pre-flash.

Actually I knew about this digital adapter very long ago, just that then it was not used by many people, so I have my doubts.

whatever questions you guys have, just post it here, I consolidate and ask Matt

si beh gian leh.. but boss say no bonus

thanks for the info! ;)

i think it works only when you can get a second hand strobe cheap, if not, you don't save much.....But whoever comes out with this idea is ingenious. He deserves to make tons of money from divers like us

If only the transmitter is smaller.

Yap, as I already said it, but must of us, if budget allows will use 2 strobes if not 3 ;p

This device, shomehow somewhere will sure to benefit someone. But it seems, not any of us yet..... the saga continues... (hums starwars tune)

From the photos, the adapter has a syn cord to go into the strobes. If inside the Ike housing, how does the syn cord gets out and connect to the strobe?

Bro, forgot to ask u what camera are u housing actually? I got some Ikelite arms to let go if u really getting ikelite housing, i.e should u decide not to go for ULCS types

from my inexperienced point of view, i think the pics are not bad wo..
