For summarit 1.5 users; i wonder how effective the XOONS is compared to a 41mm screw in hood and do any users have other recommendations?

The xoons are more or less at 200 usd on ebays now.

I thought the XOONS is aweful looking... I didn't bother using a hood when I had the summarit! I guess a screw in hood will probably serve the same function and it comes a lot cheaper!

I just got myself a Summarit 50mm f1.5 too, lovely lens!

Just finished shooting my first roll with it, I love the character it gives.

Haven't really thought of adding a hood for it, I heard the original ones are mad expensive.

Are there 3rd party ones available, might be hard to find given the rare filter size.

On evil-bays, there are a few going around from 200 and up from trusted sellers. I like this lens, but I think it would probably do better if I can find a way to minimized flare and that's why I had thought of getting the hood.

A 41mm screw in hood doesn't seem to be a cheaper alternatives either, saw one at 165 and up, yikes!
For some reason, I do like the look of the XOONS... lol

Maybe I should just drop my lens to Mr Tay for a look first.

i fully understand where you're coming from... sometimes part of the rf fun is about getting all the matching accessories! Typically, a complete set - lens, mtaching hood & filter will command a higher premium compared to individual items alone... :p

bumping up this thread, did anyone manage to find a cheaper alternative to the XOONS?

just an update, the seller agreed to send me a new one at no cost. :D

The Summarit 50 mm f:1,5 needs a 41 mm thread, and 40,5 won't fit. I've found a 41->43 mm ring and 43 mm hoods are available around.
