Alternative Battery/Power for Phantom 2

Hi all,

Does anyone know a alternative battery for dji phantom 2 H3-3D? Before I attached the gimbal and my gopro, I could fly around 25mins! But once I attached the gimbal H3-3D with my 3+ , i could only record/fly around 10mins before the red signal appear! Thats half the battery life. I bought a spare batt which cost me 200+. So imagine I bring my phantom somewhere far from home just to record/fly 10min X 2! Do you guys use the gopro power source from the phantom or its own gopro battery, meaning keep taking out the camera from the gimbal to change the gopro battery?

That unfortunately is a fact of life for quads. You are now lifting more weight and the motors have to work harder to lift that extra weight, thus drawing more battery power. There is also a limit to how big a battery you can lift as don't forget that higher capacity batteries weigh more too. Isn't the Phantom 2 the one that comes with proprietary batteries as well?

what source of connector to your gopro ?
USB or the HDMI?

I am getting more than 10 minutes for the same setup.

I have the same problem too! I think we've got faulty sets?

How are you flying? Aggressive maneuvering or just hovering?

Normal flying with basic turning. Not too high or far either. My phantom battery is used for the quadcopter, gimbal and the gopro. The fbv is stand alone with another battery source. Anyone have a better setup that last for than 15 mins recording ?

My current setting is around 15mins without FPV. I use the gopro + air station to my ground station connect USB to galaxy tabpro.
No FPV + extra battery.

I haven't had any experience with the phantom, but read Philip Bloom's recent articles on his foray into aerial shooting with interest. It seems like the reality is that you do need to carry as many battery packs for the duration you'd like to fly.

And need power for the LCD monitor too........... :(
that why I use galaxy tabpro for monitor.

There is a need to be aware of the fact that the more stuff you lift, the shorter your flight time. There is a cost to everything you try to lift in the air. Not to mention that you are now powering the GoPro and the gimbal off the same battery. There is nothing wrong with your batteries or craft, it's just physics. You want longer flight times with a large payload then you'll need a completely different craft. The phantom is an easy way to get a camera in the air but it is limited in what in can do.

longer flight/fly time over heat the rotors..... :(

What temperature? On average, a motor should be no more than 60C after flying. Best to buy one of those IR thermometers so measure it. Sometimes what you feel by touch is just normal.

my bad should be the ESC not the rotor, you are right usually good PRC motor like T-motor tends to cool down fast and waterproof. ;)

How hot? Too hot to touch? Like I said, go grab those thermometers from Jethobby then you can measure it. If you think it's too hot best to get it checked but sometimes what you feel is hot is perfectly normal. Maximum safe ESC temperature is around 85C. You are flying phantom? The enclosed ESC might heat up more since it isn't exposed to airflow.

Tiger motors are pricey but awesome. Solid durability.

Are you guys using original or 3rd party batt?

With Original Batt I have about 15min with iOSD mark 2, H3-3D, GoPro, AVL58 powered up.
