thanks for all ur comments guys.
hey there rodelfmiguel. permission has been granted to me by the people to allow me to use these photos just in case u were pondering about it.
with regards to your issue on dignity. sometimes, a photographer has to record the truth in order to tell the truth as it is. there's a very very fine line between dignity and ethics on the field. if i were to harm anyone in anyway with my camera...then i would lose my soul.
certain photographers/photojournalists do not practice the respected way of photography as well. some will do anything for the picture...and will go all the way...especially if you're on assignment. so there will never be an angel..its a very harsh world out there and you've got to see the whole picture. these are just my 2 cents!
thanks for ur local view! i think the chinese businessmen there consider themselves like kings ya? the line drawn between the rich and poor is just so big.Really Good.
My self, I am indonesian. Everytime I go back to Jakarta, I am addicted to go to places beside the rail, or near the rail.
There are a lot of photografers i guess, that has been taking photos to show poverty, especially in Jakarta.
Personaly, I know about poverty, but on the other side, the effects that you are getting from taking their photos are different.
I always told my self, I am really lucky to be here, living in a nice place, can eat a proper food everyday, etc2...
Btw, out of couriousity, did you go there alone? or there are some other indonesian people accompany you. If you go there alone, you are really brave man!!! haha... because my friends told me that I have to be really careful, some people just grab and ran away with my camera
in conclusion, GREAT PICTURE!!! Love the art!!!
wow dude that sounds really sick. but its sad to learn from you that tourism has such a big impact on the 3rd world.well, on many instances that I see young children, before I could open my mouth to ask if I can take pics of them, they spontaneously say "GIVE ME US$1 for one picture". Then the rest will run to join her/him...and all will stretch their hand and say "Give me US$1 then I go away, if not, we follow u everywhere"...now this is the time we have to firm....
When i firmly reject them and tell them off, they immediately find another victim (other ang-moh tourist) and the cycle starts again..
it is the "kind" tourists who have conditioned them to learn the art of "stretch hand and can get money easily" liao!![]()
thanks!It is very meaningful pics..
thanks for ur kind comments!I am really impressed with your work, I think the composition and mood and everything was very good. But I was just wondering what made you take these photos, what's your purpose or reason? Well I mean not very many people would pick up their camera and head off to a far off remote area. Well done anyway!

i travelled with a few locals and some helpful people who wanted to help the poor! i was lucky as not many non government organisations would actually bother about the slumps...
if i went alone as a chinese dude...i would have been easily attacked and left for dead haha...
thanks for ur advice!Uh. That is a common misconception. There is more than a fair share of ethnic chinese that are poor too. (yes I have seen this with my own eyes) It's just that the elite indonesian-chinese have managed to become substantially wealthier than your average elite indonesian that have caused much unnecessary hatred and black-sheeping of the ethnic indonesian-chinese.
 Luckily I look close enough to pass off as a possible asli and being able to speak the language helps. But still... heh. Travel in groups for your own safety. The criminals' eyes will be watching you if they spot you toting an expensive camera... whether you are local or not.
i tried to cover that in cambodia but i had quite a bad experience. but i would love to shed some light on their plight as well one day when i have the time and resources.nice series, and the people are responding quite well to you... which means u succeed to develop a friendly gestures to them... u should try the slums beside the river... even more interesting...
