All Round Pro HDV Camcorders???

I would love to hear your further explanation on why shooting outdoors with CCD cams is unimaginable, and why interlaced is old school?

Ya, thats a interesting question.......

Both sensors types are of just different school of thought. CMOS was not very usable in the early days, but its tech seems to have catched up but im sure CCD can deliver similar quality, though maybe without certain cost advantage.

Even when we talk about CCDs in the not-so-old-days....we have different types of CCD sensors with IT & FIT scanning algorithms, technologies like HyperHAD, SuperHAD, etc...
Of course some CCDs we get problems like vertical smearing when filming light sources, etc..

Each technology have it's own sets of pros & cons, limitations and strengths.

Unless you're making a comparison between Tube cameras and CMOS sensing chips, making a statement like what you've mentioned definitely calls for your justification. I guess most of us would like to hear your reasons.

Many people have shot and produced great content by using CCD imagers over the last 20years...very curious to why is it unimaginable to acquire footage with CCD sensors today.

yeah agreed wif you brader... ccd all the way... techies talk cmos is the IT ting but 4 broadcast engineers still have huge thrust in ccd

Sony is coming out their new line of hdv model, called the new NXCAM. Records in AVCHD and compares with Panasonic's HMC150/151/152. Looks good but don't know when its coming to sg.

Check it out here: http://pro.sony.com/bbsccms/ext/nxcam/NXCAMVideoList.shtml?PID=I:nxcam_prohomepagelg:nxcamlanding

HDV is a standard, AVCHD is a different standard. So if the new Sony cam is AVCHD it is unlikely to be HDV as well. Just for clarification.

Would be perfect if making one though...can choose either memory card or tape and for memory card based, choice of h.264 or avchd compression or even lossless :D

oops.. correct.. my bad. I was looking thru the sony hdv Z5, then saw the NXCAM, so i tot it was a new hdv Z5 with memory stick recording option & 128GB flash memory. It looks similar to the Z5.

So.. yup its a totally Sony's new series of camcorder in AVCHD. NXCAM. Might cost more than HDVs but cheaper than XDCAM EXs.

 seems impressive.. but not sure if the price is good?!

For indoor, i would recommend Z7 over Z5

Z5's zoom lens doesn't have a fixed iris, the iris will change from W to T

For Z7, you can grab a cheap 1/3 Fujinon lens, Z7 has the servo to make the zoom in and out work. Fujinon ENG lenses usually have a fixed large iris like F1.4 through out the zoom range, with a marked mechanical iris ring too.

I agree totally, it could be great to have the choice while we can still get the tapes.

the Sony NXCAM have the option to rec HD (AVCHD format) in H264 and SD in Mpeg2 simultaneously into both its flash memory and memory stick. you can choose to rec either memory for HD and the other for SD.

The built in GPS may be something useful for some people, especially when on location.

Personally, i quite like this cam, but AVCHD is abit of disappointment, tho not sure about its recorded image quality..

wonder how much will Sony tag it.. :)

hello again
appologies for the long hiatus, holiday commitments. anyway to make matters worse for my opinions i went out with a Z1 and a Z5 and did some side by side comparisons. I don't think the video helps my case very well but i'll just put it up for you guys to make your own decision. here it is

h264 compression took away some of the gloss.

cheers

i am still shooting with my loveable canon xm2 camcorders and making more money, heheheh 90 percent homes still use sd video. hahahahah. good to upgrade, maybe later lah:)

The other major bad thing about using CMOS sensors is the jello effect when you move the camera quickly.
wat u mean by jello effect? sorry if it is a noob question. just wanna know more for the experts here
