Alienbees

anyone's using their cyber syncs?????kinda interested to get....anyone care to enlighten???

you can get it from the website. Or you want to mass order? It cost below $200 for the trigger and receiver. I'am going to get it after i bought my zoom lens which i'am saving up!

when is that gonna be??maybe can mass order...share the shipping cost...

anyone else keen??

Not to butt in, but I keep an AB 800 as a back up flash in my apartment in Bangkok (220v) and its used with a small transformer...absolutely no problems... I also use 2 multivoltage Balcar A1200 packs and a profoto Acute 2400 alpha... the AB is just as reliable, definately lighter, and cheaper! When I was in the Military, I traveled with PC Buff equipment often with small transformers and never had a problem...I also own (in my Guam studio) Speedotron's, Comet, Photogenic, and older Norman systems, so I think I can give a fair eval...

cheers

So, all in all u said,
that this products benefits from it's size and lightweight that is mobile ?

What about the cycle time, is it fast enough ?

Anyone could explain the different between Allienbees and Einstein products ?

The Einstein is multi voltage and has a totally new type of energy damping...Best look it up on the PC Buff website...

Well,
I've sold Golden Eagle lighting sets because dissapointed with the recycle time
when I took baby photos

I'm thinking Profoto products but Alienbees seems tempting,
but I still don't understand the different between AB, WL and Einstein,
I've read it on the website and still don't understand

Any dealer in Singapore selling this Alienbees products ?

sorry to interrupt guys, i know ur discussing on Alienbees here, but yea, how do u actually determine a good, reliable (& maybe cheap?) strobe? I've heard of Alienbees, Elinchrome, Bowens, Jinbei, Comet, Profoto, Photoflex (not sure if the last 2 manufacture much of strobes)

i understand & saw that US studio photogs tend to use their own local brands but im not sure how to differentiate the reliability of the strobes. More of us here i heard are using Elinchrome & some other 3rd parties...?

oh & btw, George671, do u have photos (& maybe setups of shoots) shot using ur AB?

Here is my Alien Bee setup.

1 octabox and 1 beauty dish (the original AB dish)

The octobox is really easy to setup compare to other brand.

I'm selling it by the way. message me for more details.

Sorry, I do not have any setup photo's that I can lay my hands on right now, of my AB in use, It may be a couple of months before I'm back in Bangkok. (My AB currently sits in my BKK apt, and I'm in Honolulu right now)... When I'm only using the AB, I use it with a large umbrella as the main light, with a white reflector or poster board on camera right, near the model.

Cheers

I believe u have to order through paulcbuff australia...

thanks. Just wondering how does Alienbee fare against Cononmark ED500? Read that Alienbee can step down to 1/32 while Cononmark ED500 can step down to 1/128.

If you are refering to the new Einstein 640ws strobe http://www.paulcbuff.com/pcb2009/e640detail.html then the step down is similar but the Einstein has better colour consistency (+ - 50k), more light power, have the pocket wizard module or their Cyber commander which can control every details of the strobe remotely. However, the Cononmark should be smaller in size.

I will post some test results of the Einstein when it arrived next week.

Just got my alien bees einstein light today.

FYI, this 640ws light have 8 stops from full power to 1/256..

Here is a screenshot of the settings..

thanks for sharing. I'm thinking also on the long run for Alienbees; since it's not available locally; serviceability may be an issue since no local agent carries the parts; unless we are able to find a supplier who specialises in selling the parts (ie the bulb when replacement is needed). Will keep a lookout of your test results :)
