hi there, i bought a cheaper 3rd party TC Today...

I suddenly feel that i shd just fork out the extra $$ to buy the 1st party canon TC for g3....

i tried both at the shop today, and decided to save money... but now i change my mind...

If i go back tomorrow, do u think alan photo will allow me to change for the more expensive Canon TC ? (i top up of course)

Im asking because the receipt state at the botom "No exchange/return for cash"

Im also scared to call and ask, because usually on the phone AP guys are not very friendly...

i was thinking of just going down and requesting to change..

my TC is as new as when i got it from them... plastic wrapper all still on...

Anyone done this b4?

Pls help thanks

Talk to them nicely, I’m sure they are reasonable, provided what you have bought today is still in NEW condition with all the packaging.
Make sure you don’t go there during their peak hours.

I had a bad experience 2 years ago which the exact thing happened. Was checking out the g2 but the guy at the shop recommended me the fujifilm 4700 zoom saying it was better and all that crap. Says it is on special offer but he din tell me why, that was becos the model has been discontinued (dishonest guy man). Due to my anxiousness to get a digital camera, I followed his recommendation. Later in the day, I found out the camera was discontinued from another shop as I was curious whether Alan photo was really the cheapest as claimed by many pple. So with the packaging untouched, I went back the next day and politely asked to do an exchange with top up if necessary. That guy turned nasty, say not possible. When I pleaded with him, he says must ask his boss and even if boss allows, they will levy a charge of 20% of the price of the camera. Daylight robbery man! I left swearing never to patronise that shop again.

I am just sharing my experience so you will know whats the worst to expect. If things dun turn out well, juz leave as they can get pretty nasty. If they are sincere, they will definitely change it for you. In your case, I think it shouldnt be a problem since it is not a big ticket item.

From this, I learnt that after sales service is more impt than getting the cheapest price. All the best to you!

Am I right that in Singapore consumer right, one can return the goods or exchange it for other thing within 7 days of purchase?

That's what i'd like to know too - is this a law? From what i know, it's just goodwill and customer relations. Most of SLS honor this for computer stuff, but i haven't tried elsewhere yet.

the staffs in AP ever told me there's a 1 to 1 exchange for cameras for a limitation of 2 days after date of purchase. not sure abt other items.

Sorry borrow your thread ;p

Does Cathay allow returning lens, say 1 week old? i'm refering to returning for a full cash refund, not exchange or upgrade or store credit. i'm thinking of returning a lens exactly 1 week old. Anyone has experience with them on this?

no harm calling up to ask but I doubt you could get a full refund. even overseas , shops could charge a restocking fee for returned items.

Read somewhere in an e-mail long time ago that it can be done.... E-mail was send by a friend that attended some law class in Uni given by a law lecturer....

I'm not too sure how much of it is true but I'll be taking a law subject this coming sem so I'll let you guys know again.... :D

Or would some helpful singaporean lawyer pls point out what are the comsumer's rights are in singapore? Can I sue if the guy rip me off and refuse to refune after I go back? :dunno:

True for large price tag item ... nah ... Singapore doesn't practise that ... cause you can be sure everybody will buy and ask for a refund the next week ... singapore style.

Cathay doesn't do refund ... never heard of it ...

thomaschan,

You better do your exchange today . . .

the Sales of Goods Act does have provisions for cases where your good is defective or not as described, whereby consumers can have the right to return the good and recover the purchase price. This is true even if retailers come up with exemption clauses like "Goods sold not returnable" etc... consumers are not bound by such clauses as long as the goods are bought for private use. This is provided for by the Unfair Contract Terms Act.

However in your case there is nothing wrong with your good, and I believe you bought the thing by your own decision, so I guess you just have to depend on the goodwill of AP...

True. I've not had problems returning items for a full refund if the salesman lied about a feature and I have proof of this. This proof can either be another witness or you can them put their statements in writing. ;)

It's quite simple . . . "Could you please write that down and sign here . . ."

Another method is to start acting like a raging lunatic. They would much rather settle this quietly then to have the bad publicity. :rbounce:

Both methods are very effective but the key point is that the product was not as described by the salesman.
