Just call them to ask the price before getting there. At least for allan, it works. Very often, they quote the items cheaper on the phone.

thx freecloud...:D

MS Colour, everytime ....all the time.
I don't even bother calling Alan Photo for quote, because to me price is not everything and MS service is excellent (look for Jackson)

AP for me .. cos price matter to me

I make sure I know what I am buying .. do enough reseach.
Then go there .. Give me the BEST Price. Test everything and done.

I used to get digital cam & stuffs from Ms color since year 2000...only recently I get all my stuffs like 1Dmk2 / 1Dmk2n / 300 f2.8L from CP. I do tried to support MS color as it is very near to my place but Ms color always said no stock / wait 1~2 weeks / required $$$ deposit ...

i ordered over the phone from MS, went down and was told no one ordered the camera so left empty handed. i also did not find their price competitive. AP will discount if you ask for best price and say you will buy from them. MS always insist on holding their price, until you tell them AP is offering lower price, then they'll match.

Above is based on my 2x experience in 2 weeks.

hmm....seems that i should give AP a miss ;)

Until last month when I met up with a pro photographer here I found out that I've been cheated by AP. However never heard anything bad abt MS.

i think u contacted the wrong person over the phone..

I havn't been to MS, but AP gave inconsistent pricing. When I went and asked it was 1 price, when I went with another friend again, another price. And only 1 guy there seems to "know" about the camera stuff.

To be fair, CP gave me and my friend inconsistent pricing as well. The price sticker on the product was much higher ("list price") but when I remarked that it was expensive, they say got discount. But of course, the "discount" varies as well.

Quoting a price given from another place for the same product at CP didn't work for me, and instead I had to endure scarstic comments from the salesperson taunting me to buy from the other shop instead. To be fair, he was one of the younger salesperson, most probably less patient. The older guys there were more polite.

SB at funan was horrible, when I asked more about the pricing of certain memory devices, the salesperson started to pressure me into buying it by asking me what price I wanted. When I said thanks, he gave me the "what the hell is your problem look". Thanks for that look, SB is not getting my business.

Do your homework and call a few shops for the pricing (with or without GST, with or without memory card, size and brand) and cost for upgrade to a larger card (with or without GST once again) and other freebies and you'll be fine.

Those courts/harvey norman/best kind usually have fixed price, but unfixed freebies.

This is not uncommon for all types of equipment for all shops, except for those fixed price departmental stores. They sell below the recommended retail price and their prices are negotiable to a certain extent. Naturally, they will try not to go to their lowest possible price, if they can help it. It's just the way things are. You have to do your homework.

Good luck!:D

agreed    ;p

so far bought my stuff from ms colour. been really happy with the service from florence, apart from one time i just dropped by to look at CF cards , florence wasnt there and they were really busy.

after waiting 10 mins and still not getting served, i left.

i find its definitely worth the effort , before going down to
a. check prices here and get quotes from other shops.
b. call and check for availability and also to see if the person u normally deal with is there.

one thing no one seems to have mentioned, not sure if AP does it, is that ms color allow u to test item for 7 days and if u not happy can return and replace. i find that quite invaluable, especialy for lenses.

That is the worst thing u have mentioned...imagine we might getting a used rejected lens (for a week) at a new lens price!!!

Oh, I didn't know that too. Does it apply to all customers or only the recognised regulars?
If its for all, I will really consider buying from them when time for me to buy my EF 70-200mm f/4 L.
