alan photo disappointed me~

Come on... we are talking about AP (be it SLS or Funan) here...

They are notorious and their negative news/attitude are splashed across many threads in this forum. If one still choose to do business with them, be prepared for the unpleasent outcome. I seriously dun understand why some choose to spend $$$ to go through all these nonsense with them.

Reputable... Nah... They are notorious...

I'm a regular in Alan photo. I walk in straight and look for the guy I always deal with. Normally the price I get always lower than others. I dun look for others when I get a quote from the guy I always deal with cause I heard alot of pple talk about unhappy experience with them. Btw none of the camera shop are truely honest. That's my two cents.

But not so many negative feedback for them. I do shop in Alan Photo. You must do your homework before buying there. If you appear to be a lost sheep. Good luck.

Alan Foto is a reputable shop???since when????:nono:

Sim Lim or Funan but it seems these counter Pirates are always trying to stab buyers who have not done their assignments. My job has taken me in around 15 countries and it's pathetic to hear about these pirates doing what they are doing to the uniformed customers. Are they Singaporeans or outsiders?

Sorry. I meant UN-INFORMED customers...i don't really blame them for not doing their so called assignments...they could be the people who trust easily..just like to run the world on a handshake.....perhaps but not in Sim Lim especially...

If u know someone there, Alan photo still a reputable shop. Negative feedback is created by those nv do their homework and dunno anyone there.

Infact not just AP, every shop do the same. Even for shop with price tag, they will give discount for regular customer.

Although I don't really like AP attitude, I do buy from them with ease. They are still considered honest, won't resort to tactics. The prices they quote are genuine and products with valid local warranty.

Just do homework first before buying, bought a camera once and they give me quote higher than what I saw online, BUT it's still way below RRP. A little bargain and I got the price I want. For such shops, I will just walk in and buy, won't ask them for recommendation if I'm not sure what to buy.

Its the same in most photographic equipment places. Do your homework and walk in to any shops and get their prices. Offer the price that you are comfortable with. Once they know you know your stuff, they will usually offer competitive prices.

Sales person will always be sales person and consumer will always be consumer. These people have overheads and rental to pay. MO sellers here are giving competitive prices,as most of them no rental or at most, warehousing cost. Online prices are even more competitive.

yeah.. do your homework first before going down to buy and try not to ask the shops for recommendations.. most of the time they will try to persuade you to buy some other things which are not useful or overpriced!

You can still get good prices from Alan Photo. It just a matter of doing your homework.

Regular at OP, the counter guy even knows how I am through the phone. So I never have different pricing when call to check.

It's good to hear that you have been a satisfied customer so far. But I'll like to think this way: Why must you know someone there/look for someone there to get good prices?

Is it because the rest of the sales ppl at the shop are dishonest and you may get cheated if you find other ppl? Why can't I step into a shop where every sales ppl are all honest?

I see no wrong if they quote different price for different customers, as long as it is not higher than RRP. If a customer buys it at RRP, I don't see a problem if product is valid local set with all included accessories intact.

If the shop sells higher than RRP, or tell customer camera does not come with battery/charger (for example) and charge separately, or quote price without GST (tell you only when you want to pay), then it's a no-no. AP does not do that for what I know, at least my experience with them.

I have bought all my PNS from Sim Lim. Ixus, A95, A620 and G7.

But i have stopped buying them when they sold me those screw-on wide-angle converter, for Canon 18 - 55, for $350. I went for a trip and found the converter causes serious vignetting at 18mm. Upon returning, I took the converter back and wanted to top up to buy a proper wide-angle len when the other converters they carry have serious vignetting problem too. I was told by the same sales person that I can only get $70 back if return the converter. From 350 to 70 in less than 2 weeks!!!

After being a member here for a few years, I realised that those screw-on converter are crap and are worth less than 100. I rather throw my money into the sea then let them make another dollar from me.

Try to learn to give and take lar, every camera stores serve so many customers everyday, some time do make some mistakes, just move on since you didn't lose anything.

if not happy with the quote, start a thread to complain, is wasting CS resources.

Since AP is not your preferred store, I see no point making further complain,

and the discussion going on here are not just on AP only, but bearing this thread title is doing AP unjust.

Locking this thread,

if want further discussion on dealing camera stores, can start a new thread without store name for discussion.
