AFS 70-300 VR vs AFS 55-300 VR

Great lens u got there, if i have not gotten my 70-300 Vr, i would have gone for this definitely! worth the money!

Ive been pondering over the exact same question as you over the past few weeks...been wanting to get a telezoom for just shooting casual sports and wildlife.

Settled on 70-300VR cost all the reviews consistently rate it as having a much better IQ than the 55-300, and also cos of the faster AF. Cost wise it'll only be bout 100+ more so its not that great a difference...at least not that great compared to like 70-200 f/2.8 or some prime zooms...

But having said that, advertised WTB on BnS and been camping there waiting for someone to sell his 70-300VR but dont have!! :( might be going down to funan to see how much a brand new costs now...

If you are fine with second hand, also compare the prices with grey units. I bought mine from http://ddelectronics.com.sg/product...m-f{47}4%2d5.6-VR-ED-IF-Autofocus-Lens-.html#
Price seemed comparable to bns when i bought it.

Apparently it used to be $760 incl GST for cash at MS.

Good luck.

$750 MS color AMK =) I just bought it yesterday too. Good service (cheapest I can find after shopping @ Funan IT Mall)

I actually ended up getting the tamron 70-300 VC after testing at Alan Photo at Funan... i feel the VC works so much better than the VR, as it kind of locks the image after you focus, so you can even physically shift the camera a slight bit and the image will still be stabilized. I guess it takes awhile to get used to, but is especially useful at the extreme end of the zoom. was told the image quality is better than the Nikon as well....dunno how true that is though.

And hmm price quoted for the Nikon was actually 745 if i remember correctly, and i paid 712 for the tamron :)

There is actually quite a number of ppl selling the 70-300 vr at BnS, its just whether u wanna wait for it or not.. if u pay 712 for tamron.. i rather pay few more bucks for the nikon lens.. u will nvr be wrong with a nikon lens.. no?
