This goes to XCPictorial,

Want to clear your misconception of using Wide angle lens, 12~24mm on crop bodies to shoot Wedding. I don't know how that camera owner is shooting with his 12~24mm, but frankly, if you trace back... the good old wedding photojournalist shoots at 15~35mm on a Full Frame. That was all they have. the primes 20, 24, 28 and 35 and occasional 50mm.
The thing about nowadays so call 'wedding photographers' shoots with a wide angle lens standing FAR FAR Away. I suggest next time you see a photographer using a wide angle... suggest to him... would you like to stand closer? Believe me, I shoot wide standing 1 arm length away from the couples. The result, AMAZING! Do encourage fellow photographers to shoot better and not march up to them and spoil their day.

I just came back from a wedding dinner last night. This PAID guy uses a D3, 17~55mm DX and he shoots and checks his LCD after every 2 shot. DAMN!

It is all about knowing your equipment. You can check out my album a 'wedding to remember'. I use a D80, D70s, a 12~24mm Tokina, 18~50mm Sigma, and a 80~200mm Nikkor. Master your wide, you master photojournalism, master your telephoto, you capture quiet emotions...

Encourage. Not discourage.

Hi Andrew,

Is it a bad practice to check the LCD too often? I find myself doing that. Usually to check focus.

try not to

When shooting event... make you look like a newbie... After a tens of shots ok... but not after 1 to 2 pictures. If possible.. shoot with 2 eyes open. :-}

if using 24~70mm or 17~55mm, a shutter of 1/80 should lower possibility of cam shake. Have flash? use f/4, f/5.6, sure focused.

Don't get too worried about Aperture. A f/8, ISO 200, 1/8, still can get good 'not nec focused' picture with ttl flash.
