can't they be the professionals? u haf a thing for just local rich photographers?

furthermore there is already a thread going on abt this lens...instead of posting in that thread...why add on in the housekeeping hassle for the mods?

hi Lumiere, hope i'm not getting a wrong idea about what your comments are implying. i dun have "a thing" for local rich photographers". i'd assume they'd be the first to lay their hands on it, and they'd prolly give us cs'er a review on it if they're good samaritans and wanna contribute :) Cheers!

Mods, please close this thread if it's eating too much bandwidth on your server.:bheart:

how much is your budget for this piece of lens?

whether cheap or cheaper, aint it nice that nikon is finally giving us updates of prime lenses

prolly abt 400 i guess, waiting for reviews from our locals so from there maybe i can gauge whether to spend a lil more! Cheerios! ;)

yeah, very true.. then again, it's gonna be my 1st ever Nifty Fiftys. I've tried the 50mm f/1.8D AF (on Mf since it won't focus on my D60) at Peninsula and i thought it was really bang for bucks for a 1st hand($170) lthough i had to manually focus.. :) Don't mind the leg zoom either. But when i heard abt the af-s 50mm f/1.4, i had to give it more time to check both out before deciding.

Thanks god i had the anti-BBB injection my wife and daughter gave me! LOL! Don't wanna end up buying my lenses at the cost of my wife and daughter's piggy bank just like that gambling addict advert on Channel 5 :bsmilie: :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

you should add another 300 to that :)

whoa.. really? i really hoped the price varies from country to country. adding another 300 to that sounds like Us price converted to S$. Hopefully not though. 500 would be a prefect price though i don't have that much, i'd gladly add 1oo bucks more to my budget.

i just came back from Tokyo.
after convertion to S$, this lens cost about S$840.

Thnx for the link madmacs, after reading that thread, i feel.. down.. well.. let's just see how it fares with our locals.. Cheers!

take these reviews with a pinch of salt. we don't know how much slower it is then the afd. maybe not very significant. if the overall image quality is much better than i don't mind getting even if its slower.

ermm.. correct me if i'm wrong but isn't bigger apertures usually applies for speed and low lighting conditions? if it's slower than the afd, then doesn't it defeats the purpose of having a fast lens~?

On the other hand, i think it's how deep our pockets can be~ to own two lens that is insignificant to the other ~

After reading the thread above from dpreview, i think "slower" refers to the focus speed and not the shutter speed. 1.4d or g lens has the same aperture size so there is no "bigger apertures usually applies for speed and low lighting conditions".

I would say wait for more reviews to get a more balanced view on the lens

thanks postman, yeah you're right, i think that's what madmacs was trying to say.. i'm sooo slow~

Yeah i do think that alot more reviews would help in making decisions. Thanks again!:sweatsm:

they are referring to focusing speed not aperture. both are f/1.4 so usage-wise and application-wise should not be any difference.

yup. wait for more reviews and then try the lenses out and compare them yourself. happy then buy. :)

Woa Alvin, the last we chatted i didn know the AFS was on ur list as well :bsmilie:

Agree with hands on and see, shuhry81 dun loose too much sleep, when the time comes go down and try the lens and see if it convinces yourself, or it dissuades you. Men are tactile creatures ya
