AF-S NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G FX thread

Just checked during lunch, almost all shops have it.
Ranging from $653-690.
Much cheaper than expected, considering US is selling at 600 USD.

Is it ? I almost imported from US last time. If the price range was bettwen S$630-690, it would be better to purchase from Local Shop

Yes. In fact I bought one at $653.
It's priced quite right, making it competitive compared to Sigma 35mm.

Should be priced $550-$600, then more competitive & make purchase decisions easier :)

So how's the experience with it? I have no doubt about its sharpness but Is the vignetting as bad as someone made it out to be?

Can notice some vignetting, but it's pretty subtle & pleasing to my taste.

Hi All,
Today went NSC for a walk. As usual, the demo centre guy, very nice, and try to poison me again. :) I believe his name is Marcus. He quickly mounted the 35mm F1.8G on their demo D800 and told me to try try try. :)
I've tried the 50mm F1.8G before and sold it within a few months as I felt the colour wasn't vibrant and needed some lightroom tweak. However, after trying out the lens, I feel colourwise, this lens is value for money. $699RRP. At f1.8, not sure if they did any AFMA, the lens was pretty sharp. The following 2 jpegs were straight off the camera, with Standard setting.
First pic at F1.8, ISO 1600, 1/400s focus on girl, second pic at F2,ISO 1600, 1/640s focus on eye. Pls don't ask me why I use 1/640s or iso 1600..i just put my sdcard and shoot...
One major disadvantage for me regarding this lens is the AF speed. A bit slower than my other AFS lens.usually u will hear a zzzp...and AF lockon liao...with this lens, it was more like zzzzzzzp...a split second slower.
For those who wonder good or not? why not just go demo centre and try? Marcus will willingly let you try. Btw, D4s not in demo centre yet. :)

hahah...he is nice guy..but i would classify him as more sales minded...bec he always encourage u to try try try...hehe...then sure buy buy buy..anyway..that's the purpose of the demo centre...i have went there to try like 3-4 lenses at one go...not a single grumble from him :)

Sigma version is 1.4 not 1.8. Hard to compare

cannot compare spec to spec...but i guess the demographic of buyer may be the same..ie no budget for Nikon 35mm F1.4G..willing to try something else type... Used Sigma 35mm f1.4 around 700-900...brand new nikon 35mm f1.8g $653...so depends on buyer choose by brand or choose by spec...some believe Nikon coating always better than 3rd party brands. for me ...i still prefer 1.4 :)..

I'm using it. Paired with Df, i'm loving it to bits.
I did compare before deciding.

Nikon 35mm f1.8 vs sigma 35mm f1.4:
Pretty sharp - crazy sharp
Slower - faster 2/3 stop
Original - 3rd party
No worry AF - may need to visit service center AF
300ish - 600ish gram
Solid plastic - solid metal
$650ish - $950ish?

It's pretty much depends on own preference.

Of course! I suspect they will remove video capabilities altogether from all lines, it would be a huge step for photographers.

And force videographers to switch to Canon? And if I'm a photographer-videographer, I'm forced to switch to Sony?
