AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR - OFFICIAL THREAD

No one is stopping you from getting it to "kit" up with D750. But if you hope nikon "lelong" as kit then you're not realistic. Flagship lens as kit lens? Maybe with D5? $9.5k set maybe?

No need to lelong for kit lens ...

Just that give more choices, instead of the 24-120 F4 kits lens can have another choice of kit with this 24-70.

Maybe price it as $4,500 ?

The d750 comes in as a mid-range full frame camera for nikon. Sitting between the d810 and d610 price range. To kit it with a 24-70 will kill the price, and de-value the lens. (Which has been the case for excellent kit lens like the nikon 24-120 and fuji xf18-55)

The best choice is always via a body only, and purchase with purchase. Most shops locally debundle the kits and sell them both off cheaply.

good suggestion to ask the shop to debundle the kit and get this premium 24-70 lens instead ...

thanks

One of the 'preview' reviews have stated the Nikon 24-70/2.8E is not as sharp at close focusing distance. I've confirmed that this is quite true. At distance less then 70cm, the image is significantly softer, stopping down does not help much.

Here's a sample shot at 50mm, at around 40cm (minimum focusing distance) at f/2.8 on a D750. (D810 is in hospital.)

Also, even with the 82mm front element, vignetting is still pretty strong wide open. (Not an issue for me, i kinda like it.) Haze is still pretty bad, hopefully the Sun will be out tomorrow and I can bring it for a test round.

Thanks for the info, bro

Cash Pricing is SGD $2,640 - $2,670

Card pricing is more like SGD $2,720+

Singapore IS the cheapest place you can buy this lens (from reputable face to face dealers)

This lens is really hot, man !

I went in to a shop in Funan and was quoted $2,622. However, it is out of stock ! :what:

Doubt that shop will sell it to you when its IN STOCK for that price... lol

Watch out... some offer a price low when NO stocks.....

ANYONE that wants this lens place an order and you'll get it - Don't expect to just see them sitting on a shelf avail until after Christmas!

Agree. They can tell you any price if they got no stock. Then ask you for a deposit and raise the price later. Common scam (even in funan)

Like most of the new (good) nikon lens, dun expect to see them on the shelfs till a year later. Order ahead. My regular shop had 3 pieces and all went direct to preorders, never get to see the shelf.

Thanks bro for the warnings ...

Anyway, just to clarify, when I asked about the lens, the shop actually said no stock.

Then, I asked "what was the price you sold ?" and he told me $2,622 ... well, I suppose he can bedek me since there was no stock ...

I can sell you the Titanic for $1000..... But i got no stock. :) :)

My first thoughts....

- Better than the older version which sucks in the 24-35/37mm range - I sold my old one in late 2009 because of this.
- Current version is very sharp in the 24-60mm range.
- Softer in the 70mm range - but maybe nice for portraits because of this. ( no mater I have ample portrait primes if I want to see hairs and skin pores. )
- Vignettes a bit at f2.8 but I don't mind it and can be corrected if one doesn't like it.
- Nicer to shoot into bright light sources.
- Color seems a little dull... well thats prob the haze or I'm spoilt by my ZEISS Primes. :) ( I want BLUE SKIES !! )
- Focusing is awesome fast! Much faster than prior one - I'm liking it.
- Lens is big - two people saw me thinking this is a 70-200.
- Even though size is big, it handles very nicely ( Pro lenses should be big as they sit in hand nicer IMO. )
- May want a new deeper shoulder bag... did I say its big? :)
- Hood is very tight when you have a filter or lens cap on... maybe a few weeks will de-virgin it.
- This lens is cheaper here in Singapore than many other countries !! YAY!!

Will share some more when I get a chance... prob on the weekend.

A recent review :

" As for if you should upgrade or not, that’s a tough call so I made a list for you to consider.

1. If you shoot hand-held in low light situations, the VR alone may be worth the upgrade.
2. If you need faster AF.
3. If you need slightly better mid-frame sharpness and much better edge and corner sharpness.
4. If you anticipate using this lens at high frame rates with a D5. ;) ;)
5. If you think the current 24-70 has stopped working now that the new one is out. "
