How is the lens flare ?

Same users below is the summary.

"To be honest, the Nikon AF-S 24-70mm f/2.8 G 2007 lens is optically a very good lens. The new Nikon AF-S 24-70mm f/2.8 VR beats it because it is more robust, it has a built-in picture stabilizer, quicker AF drive, but the optics are not that much better. The new Nikon AF-S 24-70mm f/2.8 VR has much less chromatic aberration CA and works better when shooting straight into the light, where ghosting and flare effects are less noticeable. Sharpness at close-ups is worse with the new lens, also the vignetting is much stronger at f/2.8, than with the previous version. Optical distortion with both is about the same, even though we would expect an improvement in this area, the center sharpness is about the same, the far edge sharpness with the new Nikon AF-S 24-70mm f/2.8 VR is a little better."

Due late OCT I believe... based on what we know - what are peoples thoughts on the lens so far??

Thoughts are:

i) VR module = additional cost
ii) additional breaking parts

Soon later people will expect a 14-24 with VR.

Not me.. I am still over the moon with that gem of a lens in my bag. Shooting so wide, I have never thought a VR will help it any better.

Just saying.

14-24's not my cup of tea, so doesn't matter to me got VR or not.

One reason I shoot many manual prime lenses, and minimal zooms. :)

Local stock for the Nikon 24-70/2.8E is in. Check your local shops for your price :)

Great news. Been waiting for a long time :D

No one is stopping you from getting it to "kit" up with D750. But if you hope nikon "lelong" as kit then you're not realistic. Flagship lens as kit lens? Maybe with D5? $9.5k set maybe?

So your are No1 to get it in clubsnap? Congrat if true....

As you all know the 24-70/2.8E is heavier then the 24-70/2.8G, but i feel the balance is slightly better spread out. VR is nice, but not needed, the stabilizing isn't as noticeable vs a 300mm telephoto lens. Maybe coz I'm used to holding the telephoto lens for birding, and the Sigma art lens, but I don't feel the 200 grams difference in weight.

Sadly, I don't have a digital body to test more. (My d810's in nikon being serviced for a cracked viewfinder holder, shop did provide a D750 to test to my heart's content)

Currently using it on my other body, which is quite sad..
